I know what your saying here but thats a cop out. Lots of bad decisions were given in Seoul, its the most corrupt Olympic Games that I can recall. Jones could have and should have fought away from home soil. Us Euros' except that a European fighter must fight in the States to truly get recognition. The same applies to American fighters.after what happened in the seoul olympics rjj vowed to never fight abroad again and who could blame him. those studs never would leave their backyards knowing RJJ would never fight abroad for LEGIT reasons.
good for them RJJ would end their careers and mikell kessler would be fighting like some other guy who had the other abc belts instead this sat ahahha.
Calzaghe will never get the recognition he truly deserves until he fights and probably beats a big name American fighter on American soil.
Jones was probably the most talented fighter for 20-30 years but IMO he orchestrated his career and was careful with who he fought. I'm not saying he ducked anyone because I dont think he did but he at times took the easier route IMO.
If that were not the case how is it that he is still not given the recognition that his talent should have given him?Comment

I agree with you. Calzaghe fans are engaging in revisionist history. They claim that RJJ dodged Calzaghe? RJJ beat the best at 160, 168 and 175. Then, while he was allegedly dodging Calzaghe, he moved up to heavyweight and beat John Ruiz. Does this sound like a man who would dodge a featherfisted 168 pounder who, prior to the Lacy fight, couldn't draw 5,000 fans to his fights and was completely ignored by most boxing writers and websites? Calzaghe refuses to fight anyone unless they fight at 168 in Calzaghe's backyard. Is this the guy you think Roy Jones was scared of?
Calzaghe claims he is moving to 175 after the Kessler fight. However, what most of his fans don't realize or conveniently forget is that Calzaghe has been saying that for the last five years. A couple of years ago he had signed to fight Glen Johnson at 175 and came down with a phony hand injury. After Johnson moved on to knock out Roy Jones, Calzaghe's promoter wouldn't return phone calls from Johnson's people and Calzaghe conveniently decided to stay at 168. Then earlier this year, when Johnson tried to negotiate a fight with Calzaghe at a catch weight of 171, Calzaghe refused to fight him unless he came down to 168 and came to Wales to fight him.
Yet, this is the same guy who claims he is moving to 175 after the Kessler fight. Other than Jeff Lacey in Wales, Calzaghe has not beaten ANY opponent recognized as among the best in the world. Roy Jones beat Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Antonio Tarver, John Ruiz and several quality guys at 175. Yet, you guys think Roy Jones was afraid of Calzaghe? As Mayweather's Manager, Leonard Ellerbe said a few days ago about Ricky Hatton, you guys have been drinking too much Guinness.
I can't wait to see Kessler KO Cazaghe so we can end the myth that Calzaghe has grown to become.Comment

Roy Jones would have dominated - DOMINATED - Joe Calzaghe.
Is Joe faster? no
Hits harder? LMAO
Better athlete? LMAO squared
More elusive? LMAO cubed.
Repeat: DOMINATED.
Beating Euros, green fighters, or Contender rejects is a bit different than facing Roy Jones Jr.Comment

Well, we can speculate all night about who would have won between Jones and Calzaghe. One thing for sure is I have not found any serious inquiries being made by Jones to fight Cal before 2006. There was an exchange between camps in 2006 when Jones was already diminished and Cal the man. But, I haven't found anything before that. Unless somebody can find something else, I cannot assume that Cal avoided Jones in the earlier years of Cal's reign. Furthermore, while Roy was magnificent in his prime, he did tend to fight tomato cans starting after the Toney fight and up until Antonio Tarver makes his appearance on Jones' record. Not denying Jones' indisputable talent, just commenting on his "business acumen." I find it rather hypocritical that pro-Jones people can criticize Calzaghe's choice of opponents.Roy Jones would have dominated - DOMINATED - Joe Calzaghe.

He put on one of the best displays of boxing you will ever see against Iran Barkley. He knocked out Littles a round after suffering a vicious cut that would have stopped the fight for sure. He fought 10 tough rounds against Prince Williams (IBF LHW champ at the time), and damn near knocked him out cold in the 11th.
He was the real deal when he was in shape.Comment
