In almost exactly 5 years of competition I was 57-13. I went 17-1 in the year 1987. And I can assure all of you that those records are false because i know many former top amateurs personally and can assure you that those records are false because in some cases I have seen them personally lose more times than they are credited for. Roy Jones for example was a SPECTACULAR amateur but I have seen his losses touted as 4 in his career and I know for a FACT that he lost well over four fights. You guys have to understand, these guys go to many, many, many local, regional and national competitions..... they are not winning all of them...that means they are losing each year somewhere along the way. 5 times in a 7 year amateur career? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. The only one verifiable for me is Mark Breland at 110-1. Also, for example, many say Ray Robinson was 85-0, many of you takeit as fact but I have his autobiography and in it he himself talks about losing to Billy Graham in an amateur fight in NYC

Yes, many fighters LIE about their records...many guess. I have seen many lie. Just last week I got a fighter list from a gym here that listed one kid as 65-7...when I know for a fact he hasnt had more than 25 fights. I know another kid who lost at least 20 times as an amateur that I could remember....but his amateur record lists him with only 7 losses. It is not like the pros, they dont keep fully accurate records in the amateurs like that ESPECIALLY back when all these guys are listed

I'll back this up as a long time trainer of amateurs. Not sure about the States but in the UK your 'card' doesn't always get marked and when you are talking about 100's of fights over a number of years of course there will be inaccuracies. Jesus I had less than 70 but more than 50 yet I'm not entirely sure of the number.
