this poll should be edited to include tracy harris patterson.

maybe even wilson rodriguez and gabe ruelas.

of these, i pick dorin. dorin had his notable fights @ 135 but he weighed 140 in numerous fights. dorin was a tough guy and gatti took him out with a perfect body shot.

The greatest thing that ever happened in Arturo Gatti's life was Buddy allowing him to quit on his stool after the sixth round vs. Mayweather.

Not seeing two more rounds of that mauling was also the worst thing that happened in my life.

              Easily Leija IMO.

I mean he was blown up/ washed up but that was pretty impressive. Most people just don't decimate Leija like that.

Gatti ****ing lit him up with right hands.

people like to talk **** about Gatti, but he had some pretty decent wins. Thomas Damgard was in the RING magazines top 5 welterweight rankings at one time ya know.

                Damgard
                Leija
                Dorin
                Branco
                Ward x2 (arguably 3)
                Patterson
                Ruelas

could be worst. thing is, Gatti could almost always be beat by any quick fairly high-level boxer, and if that boxer was also a puncher, Gatti would be wasted.
but he was able to lure people into wars just because he was so hittable. and it did work, he got some good wins with it. but it always depended on his opponents style.

I don't understand that ring ranking. Thomas Dammegard has only fought outside of Denmark 1 time and that was against Gatti. And the level of opposition Dammegard was facing wasn't exactly stellar. Phillip Holiday is the best fighter he's ever been in with and he squeaked by a decision.

As for those wins excluding Dammegard...........Leija was old and washed up, Dorin was blown up and definitely not the same fighter at 140 that he was at 135, I've never really been sold on Branco outside of his toughness, and never considered him anything higher than a C or C- class fighter.

The wins over Dorin, Ward, Leija, Ruelas and Patterson are undoubtedly Gatti's biggest wins of his career. But keeping things in scope the wins aren't really worth referring when it comes to World Class Opposition.

Gatti has never beaten a World Class fighter before. Leija was the closest, but had already began the spiral towards outright Journeyman.

Gatti: Exciting, Hard Hitting, As Tough as Anyone, as Brave as Anyone.

Not a World Class fighter by any means, and never was.
