Julio Cesar Chavez & Pernal Whitiker 2 years

Im watching the Whitiker v. Cardona fight on espn classics. And man, Joe Tessote is licking Whitiker balls big time. Cardona lands a punch and Tessote said it was not a clean shot -bullsht- then i see whikter get hit on the liver and right away Whitiker bends over then grabs and lifts Cardonas leg -showing signs that the bodyshot hurt him. Yet, Tessorte doesn't say a thing. And this one fight reminded me just how dirty a fighter Whitiker was.

So then of course with any Whitiker fight they talk about the Chavez fight. But they never say that Chavez wanted a rematch and that Whitiker first wanted Chavez to say that "he lost the fight." And you know thats never going to happen.

So i got to looking at there ages when they fought.

    Chavez was 31.
    Whitiker was 29.

Then i thought about who have been in more wars - Chavez.

Who has been in more fights - Chavez.

    Who is older - Chavez.

So i got to thinking how much does a 2 year difference in boxing make?

Well looking up there both records it shows a lot can happen in 2 years? We know some fighters are never the same after one fight - in boxing 2 years can be 4 or 6 cat years. .

So what i did was looked up Whitiker record and seen where he was at 31, the age when Chavez fought Whitiker. Well. I found out it was when he fought Jake Rodriguez last. But a few months later he fought Wilfredo Rivera being 31 year old Whitiker had one very, very hard time beating Rivera. In fact! Many felt Whitiker had lost to Rivera, myself included. As i felt he lost their second fight. 31 years old, 2 years after Chavez, and the same age Chavez was when he fought Whitiker.

Just thought it was interesting what 2 year can do to a boxer.

There is a huge difference in the effect of deteriorating skills on different types of fighters. Its is much sooner seen on guys like Whitaker as opposed to brawler types like Chavez.

Chavez was past his prime, but i would say Whitaker was also a bit out of his prime. Pernell fought more flat footed as he moved up in weight. And he fought at a slightly lower pace then his days as a lightweight.

I know Chavez had fought much more then Pernell and been in many more wars, but still he keep on going strong. Some fighters age faster then others like Tyson, it depends on style and in some cases it might be genetic.

Pernells style depended on reflexes and speed much. That can give a shorter prime unless you can chance style as you grow older.

Still past his best at 31 Pernell beat Julio Ceasar Vasquez at 154 pounds, impressive in my book.

              Whitaker > Chavez.

One of the worst robberies of all time.
