vargas/quartey was more one sided than barrera morales and the action in barrera morales was a little more intense. I think we all have seen barrera morales so many times its old to us anymore and we dont view it like we did when it was live. They were both awesome fights. One is just more popular.

One of the reasons Morales/Barrera was such a great fight is because of the level of talent in the ring that night. A lesser fighter would have been crushed by either of those guys. They were by far and away the best fighters in and around their weight class.

Vargas/Quartey was a solid title fight as well. Both men landed hard shots and gave fair accounts of themselves. The things that made that fight less compelling were Quarteys inactivity and Vargas' inexperience.

Both Barrera and Morales were legitimately buzzed in that first bout. The fifth round is the round highlighted in almost all instances when speaking about the fight, but it was a clear example of both guys rocking each other. Morales was battering Barrera for 2/3 of that round and then Marco came back with the series of shots that stopped Eriks assault. Hell of an exciting fight at the time. Both of those guys were trying to decapitate one another from the get go.

I agree with this and by no means is Barrera vs Morales1 over rated.

Barrera-Morales 1 is one of the greatest fights ever. Only fight ive seen better is Corrales-Castillo 1.

I dont remember the Quartey fight as vividly. That usually tells me which fight was better imo.

the Vargas-Ike fight was a great one, but it cant touch Barrera-Morales 1. You the best two guys in the division, two HOF fighters, in their prime (or at least close to it) beat the **** outta each other for 12 rounds. I remember Merchant saying somethign like 'it feels like sometimes theyre almost giving TOO much in this fight', which basically means they were destroying each other.

Great technique, physically they were both monsters, and the rounds went back and forth. Close as can be, that fight. And what a dramatic ending too, Morales sure as hell was hurt then. 5th round was crazy. even had controversy.

yea thats definetly possible.

i must have seen Barrera-MOrales 1 a million times, but today may have been the first time ive seen Quartey-Vargas since the year 2000... damn 7 years???

idk. to each his own. i still think its a great fight, dont get me wrong, but not worthy of the attention it got. The back and forth action was more of a lot of shoe-shining to try and win the rounds, the actual blows landed.

i think thats just because Morales-Barrera is one of the most popular fights of the last decade, is a famous trilogy, and both barrera and morales remained bitter rivals AND popular fighters until just a couple of months ago.

Where as Quartey has fought twice in several years, and Vargas hasnt fought in a long time and only plans to fight once more.

something to note is i believe Quartey-Vargas was AFTER Morales-Barrera, but the HBO crew thought that Quartey-Vargas was the FOTY. if you respect their opinion, just a thought

I remember Quartey being too inactive at times, and rocking Vargas late. Vargas put up his best performance ever against a guy who I thought beat DLH.
