I just saw Allan Green's last fight against Sherwin Davis. A 2nd round KO. I think all the knockdowns were with the left hook, which didn't look especially good to me as they were thrown with the arms rather than the body. So, Davis didn't seem to have a great chin and I don't know how much can be gleaned from his first fight after having 85% of his colon removed.
Anyway, I read an interview with Green after the Pavlik-Taylor fight and this is what he had to say about it:
"I think Jermain could have easily won the fight, I thought Pavlik was tailor made for him, but Jermain Taylor is indicate skill wise. Jermain Taylor is not a go-getter, he is fast and has talent but there are a lot of things he really needs to work on. His defense is his offense, all he knows to do is when people gets on him is to throw punches, but he does not throw punches to attack but to get people off of him. He has been fighting like that since the first Hopkins fight. He got Pavlik hurt and did not know how to finish him. He threw a lot of amateur punches. I think he was nervous, it was not the fact that Pavlik weathered the storm but because of Jermain’s inadequacies to finish Kelly Pavlik off, and when he couldn’t I think it bothered him mentally. Even a second-rate fighter would of ended Pavlik if they had him in that condition. I have the utmost respect for Kelly, he is not the most talented guy and he will admit that, but he is in tremendous shape and has tremendous determination and that is why I respect him.
...
AG: I would love to fight Pavlik, I dream about that fight."
This got me to wondering who would win this fight. The only common opponent I could find was Edison Miranda who decisioned Green and who Pavlik knocked out, but of course Green was unhealthy at the time. I think it would be a good fight and Green would certainly have a chance to win it, but I am going to say Pavlik by late stoppage. In any event I wouldn't see it going the distance. Who do you think would win and why?
