and do you feel sorry for any of them? it's crazy how the hype machine can influence you and have you thinking someone is on the come up. and then time goes by, and you wonder what happened to them.
who seemed to be good but never made it?

I think Zab Judah is a definate candidate for this. The guy has so much potential but just falls short of ever being great.
Fernando Vargas is another person that comes to mind. I always just wonder what could have happened had he never been injured. A rematch with either Trinidad & De La Hoya? A move up to 160 to fight Hopkins at some point? There are so many fantasy matches that would have been classics, I think.
I think Ike Quartey could fit in this category, many may disagree with me though.
David Reid had a lot of hype surrounding him for a little bit, I think. I was impressed with him when he fought Trinidad, although he lost. But I always did wonder what happened to him.
William Joppy was someone else who I always thought was really good but just never quite got to where I thought he could be.
Oh, and also Cory Spinks.Comment

Tua's fought 3 times this year and is only 34, might still have some left in the tank.
In answer to the thread Mathew Hilton in fight of the year back in 1987 in beating Buster Drayton amd winning the IBF junior middleweight belt then defended his belt with a couple early ko's, then just fades away.Comment

zab judah seems to be able to contend, but you are right, he keeps falling short, and he even lost to someone he should not have lost to. well, at the very least, at least all those guys had a chance at greatness, something that most of boxers will never come close to. some people are going to say mike tyson, and yeah he had a short prime, but next to ali, he was the most popular boxer in the sport i think. and he made a lot of money, although he's in debt now. oh well.I think Zab Judah is a definate candidate for this. Tua had his chance against Lewis but spent it wondering whether to throw a punch or not. What a waste.
In regards to Zab, he has failed the test of greatness but at least he was a world champ. But I thought he would have had a much bigger career.Last edited by brently1979; 10-26-2007, 12:38 AM.Comment
