MAYWEATHER: I fight BETTER going backwards

Mayweather Will Thrive On Hatton Pressure

Floyd Mayweather Jr insists pressure alone from Ricky Hatton will not be enough to beat him when the undefeated pair clash for Mayweather’s WBC welterweight crown in Las Vegas on December 8.

Hatton said last week that his trademark pressure tactics will be the key to victory but Mayweather’s business advisor Leonard Ellerbe does not believe this to be the case.

"A number of great trainers have worked with Floyd’s opponents and they all think that’s the way to make Floyd feel uncomfortable,”said Ellerbe. “They’ve all tried and they all come up with the same results."
Mayweather himself reiterated Ellerbe’s statement saying: "On December 8 we welcome the pressure. We fight better going backwards."

Agreed... although he did a pretty good job at chasing Zab Judah around and fighting coming forward with straight punches and hooks to the body.

I don't think he fights better going backwards he just very good at because of his speed and timing. He is at his best when fighting in spurts getting his rythum and fighting in his pocket.
I think this fight will be like the Coralles fight. PBF felt threatened in that fight and he had something to prove. I think he is viewing this fight in the same way. Which why we will see a PBF we haven't seen in a long time.

He is right about one thing though Castillo did not come up with the result he so richly deserved

Floyd tends to move forward and press the action when he knows his opponent is either tired, hurt, or not a threat. That night, Judah pressed Floyd for the majority of the first 4 rounds. Floyd then reversed the roll once Judah gassed out.

I thought Mayweather had already said he was going to go "toe-to-toe" with Hatton? Well that lasted long. Still more than six weeks until fight night and already Mayweather is going backwards. What a surprise.

I hope he moonwalks or something to make it a little more interesting.
