Jones did it before Hopkins adopted his ring control style. That is like saying Vargas got off against Wright. It's true, but it's not a reflection on the style that has made it work for him.

De La Hoya won a few of the first rounds, like everyone else, and then got shut down.

Of that list, I'd say Sweet Pea.

          Yeah I'm not sure though.

Because Hopkins didn't start using that cautious defensive style until the Trinidad fight. In his young career he was a brawler.

Yeah, I know... idk, I just think it is him, because, seriously, what assets can you name that Bernard has?

He has some power, but not enough to win fights by KO.
He is not super quick anymore.
His defense is good, but that's only half the equation of winning fights.
He doesn't have a great workrate.

How does he win? It's the ring control man. It's so good, that it beat out Winky Wright's super defense, which is nuts.

You have a really good point there.

But you can say that he was a LHW fighting at MW for one. I'm not sure if that's a factor in him being able to force people to fight his fight. It might be though. He's always been as big or significantly bigger than everyone he's ever fought.

Not Antonio Tarver... and he shut his ass down too.

You are right for the most part though. I really sat down one day, and tried to figure out how the hell Bernard Hopkins won his fights... and the only thing I could come up with is that he forces his opponents to fight his fight.

You can tell by the name, but it's gotta be my man Ex.

The guy is just a superior ring general, his age gives gim extended wisdom as to how to neutralize and control an opponent's offense. That lead right hand he has is beautiful, absolutely beautiful.
