by David P. Greisman - Will Jermain Taylor exercise his rematch clause with Kelly Pavlik?
More than three weeks have passed since the knockout heard ‘round 160 pounds. Kelly Pavlik’s fists full of steel dethroned now-former champion Jermain Taylor, cleaning up a middleweight landscape that had become quite complicated and controversial since Taylor’s reign began.
Not so fast.
Taylor-Pavlik had a rematch clause within the contracts calling for a second bout at a catch-weight of 166 pounds in case Taylor lost. Taylor hasn’t exercised the option yet, though, and boxers within the immediate vicinity await his decision.
Should Taylor not call dibs on being the first to get Pavlik back in the ring, then Pavlik will have many options, including potential clashes with middleweights Arthur Abraham, John Duddy and Sergio Mora, or even the winner of next month’s Joe Calzaghe-Mikkel Kessler super middleweight unification bout (more on that soon).
