To all boxing fans here, stop being racist.

BUMP FOR THE MORE EDUCATED POSTERS.Rooting for a fighter just because "I iz black" or because he's the next white hope or just because he's Latino AT ALL TIMES REGARDLESS OF ANY CIRCUMSTANCE is just plain racist. Try to elevate your standards and be a little more objective because GOD KNOWS BOXING NEEDS ALL THE OBJECTIVE ANALYSIS IT CAN GET.
Por ehemplo, I am Filipino but I rooted for Darchinyan against the Filipino Glen Donaire, and just hated it when the latter quit BECAUSE I WANTED DARCH TO GIVE THAT LITTLE FEGIT A BEATING. When Nonito (another Filipino) KTFOd Darch I almost quit posting for 5 months.
Another example was the Katsidis-Amonsot fight where I rooted not for the brash and ****y Filipino but for the exciting and humble Katsidis. You can just imagine my joy when Amonsot got KTFOd.
Now I like Pac not so much because he is Filipino but because he is THE MOST EXCITING FIGHTER in the world and arguably the WORLD's BEST.
Maybe you guys can shed your racial prejudices aside so that we can analyze boxers (and ultimately boxing) better and make this the universal sport that it should be. After all, boxing ability is not based on one's racial heritage but on one's hard work, guts-to-the-wall training, perseverance, sacrifice, heart and God-given talent, all of which are UNIVERSAL in nature and which can be found in ALL PLACES in the world and not just in one place.Comment

That is all good. What I AM SAYING is the statement you made would make me think otherwise. When stating the other races you had no problem addressing them with respect so why the childish "i iz black" statement? I have seen you post joe. Some things you say are outlandish and others are quite intelligent and are backed with facts. However, what you did was in bad taste. If you were trying to be serious with your statement there would be no need for that sarcastic remark.Last edited by SkillspayBills; 10-21-2007, 11:39 PM.Comment

Mmmkay, actually I was merely re-echoing the sentiment of some posters here, who have actually used this phrase time and again. Mind you, I didnt coin that phrase. That is all good. At any rate, this isn't the whole import of the thread, so what do you think? Do you agree with my hypothesis that some fans here just come up with a list of fighters from their race or country then start rating the group's best fighter as THE BEST FIGHTER IN THE WORLD, to the exclusion of of other fighters foreign to them? Because it sure seems like that way in these boards.
Corrolarily, can we have a biased-free boxing analysis or will all fighters from the east underrated compared to their western counterparts even if they were actually better fighters?Comment

I agree that people need to stop cheering for people because they are the same race or nationality or whatever. It is pretty sad that people feel like they have to cheer for someone because they are the same color or from the same country. What makes it worse is that these are the people that you cant even have a discussion with. There guy must be the best cause he is looks like them, and thats that.
I have fighters I like of every race, and I couldnt give less of a **** if they are American or the same race as me. I like the guys who come to fight and put on a show. Simple as that.

I saw this thread thinking "hmmm finally someone who wants stop all this ****** race BS as much as I do".
Then in the first damn sentence you show your own ignorance by mentioning three races with only one race having a derogatory phrase showing illiteracy and racist views as your representation for them.
You may have had the right idea but you ruined your own thread.Comment

I've never seen a bunch of posters so narrow-minded.Comment
