Cotto doesn't have the tools to beat Mosley

true, so why can't you give Malignaggi some credit there? The man had a broken cheek bone and still kept on fighting; maybe just maybe there is a fighting spirit in Paulie that most fighters seem to lack, even though he lacks firepower.Comment

Mosley has only lost to Forrest and Winky. Stylistaclly Forrest always gave Mosley problems in the amateur and pro's. His 6 foot tall frame and his lanky jab were the main reason. Winky's peak-a-boo defense along with his own jab went on to give Taylor and even Hopkins problems.
Miguel Cotto has none of that. No size advantage, no great jab and defense isn't that great either. See Cotto/Torres for evidence.
Beating Malinaggi, Quintana and Judah were great wins but all those guys had flaws that Cotto took advantage off. Malinaggi had the speed, footwork but not the fire power to hold Cotto off.....Shane does. Quintana was a good (not very good) boxer but he was overrated by fans based on his win vs Joel Julio, who barely beat Cosme Rivera afterwards. Judah had the power and the speed but he didn't have the mental strength to take a few shots and keep fighting a la vs Baldomir......Shane does.
Also Mosley is the last 36 year old guy you should be worrying about regarding his prime status. Being a gym rat all these years has helped him in that department. So don't even give me the "Cotto is younger and stronger then Mosley" theory. If that's all you're leaning on...don't bet your money on it.
See here what Mosley does to fighters who don't have a great jab, shell like defense or the speed that competes with his own. Bodypunching will only get you so far.
That is probably the silliest statement I have ever read in this forum. Body punching by a puncher can give the unfortunate recipient an unexpected trip to the canvass, bruises that take weeks to heal and even internal injuries that could kill him. Body punching is how you chop a boxer's legs off. Body punching sets up the eventual knockout. Cotto is one of the best body punchers in the sport and has taken out more than one opponent with just one body shot.
We all know that Mosley is a pretty tough guy, we also know he is easy to hit. As to whether he can absorb repeated body shots for 12 rounds remains to be seen.Comment

i would have to agree. cotto is a great fighter no doubt but his lack of defense is gonna be his downfall in this fight. yes hes strong and applies non stop pressure. But Shane has been in this situation before and would know how to adapt and win the fight. Shane will use his superior skill and handspeed to pick good shots against cotto which will eventually knock him out. if you remember the judah fight the times judah did land combos cotto seemed to have staggered. its just that zab lacks the discipline so he couldnt finish cotto. thats not the case with shane. he will find cottos weaknesses, expose them, and use it to his advantage throughout the whole fight.Comment

i never thought cotto was hurt against zab he just got caught with a good punch here and there.shane didn't know how to adapt in his first fight against forrest or winky he looked frustrated like if he didn't know what to do.i would have to agree. cotto is a great fighter no doubt but his lack of defense is gonna be his downfall in this fight. yes hes strong and applies non stop pressure. cotto has a good defense he only gets caught while he is punching like in the fight with torres and corleyComment

This fight is going to be a brawl. Miguel throws hurting punches, and even as recently as the Collazo fight Jim Lampley again referred to Mosley's well known need to answer back and immediately counter strike when he gets hit. Cotto is going to hear an echo every time he lands a shot. Wap! Wap!
I have Mosley and you guys know my story. Here's the thing though; nobody has any evidence that Cotto cannot recover from the punches that make him chicken cluck. He's recovered every time. And he's recovered fast for the most part. Corley and Torres had him in trouble for one full minute plus each. In the case of Torres, Ricardo was battering Cotto all over the ring and Miguel would not go down. He got hit with a dozen hard punches after he was caught and stayed up initially. The knockdown was a pulldown during that sequence. Miguel wobbles, but he doesn't go down. Judah was NAILING him; and no dice. That's something I've been looking at as a Mosley advocate. Judah hits hard and he caught Cotto with at least 5+ punches he's knocked other guys out with. Can Shane really get him out of there?
Like The Ring says in the breakdown of their fight; Shane Mosley may have plenty left in the tank, but Cotto is a tank.
I believe Cotto is going to get viciously countered when he lunges in with his jabs and leads. With Shane's freakishly long reach and compact piston punching Miguel is going to walk into alot of head ringers. If Cotto gets knocked out there's an excellent chance he'll do it himself on the end of one of Shane's shots. It might take that extra bit of momentum to do the trick.
Mosley can disarm Cotto in the pocket. Hope there's not too much doubt about that.. If Mosley has to set stuff up, he'll be able to keep Cotto busy with chain punches and then unload with the haymakers when Miguel is a few feet out - IF, the short **** isn't enough in itself. If Cotto wants to stand and trade Mosley is going to be right there in front of him. No running.
These guys are going to CRACK on each other for as long as it lasts.Last edited by Addison; 10-22-2007, 02:27 AM.Comment
