The Welterweight division is stacked with great prospects and champions, if they were to fight the people who would perhaps make for a dangerous but great fight I think we'll be in for a treat:
Alfonso Gomez - Andre Berto
Stylistically I don't think there's a more exciting fight for these guys right now. Both have great power, Gomez has nice speed and a great technique, Berto has amazing speed and a record that speaks for itself. If these guys were to actually figth and brawl the way we expect them to, we'd be in for a real treat. Aside from that there hasn't been a welterweight to test Gomez's chin yet, and Berto has a great if not the best chance to do that.
Antonio Margarito - Zab Judah
Both have lost to two of the best welterweights inthe division this year. They didn't however lose all that convincingly and put up great fights. Judah had Cotto in trouble early in the fight and Margarito's punches had more impact than Williams' when he was able to land. I remember Margarito being interested in a unification bout when Judah was #1 and if these guys were to fight eachother they'd put themselves closer to another title shot. The loser of this fight however will lose a lot of eye from the public, just the fact that all would be at stake for these guys will make for a great fight. Stylistically it'd be interesting to see if Judah's blend of power, speed and agility will be enough to beat Margarito's height advantage, dangerous power, and ability to create angles.
Kermit Cintron - Paul Williams
Emanuel Steward said Cintron served as a sparring partner for Taylor during his training camp for Pavlik and their sessions would be beautiful. IF Cintron could overcome Williams' height, reach, and ability to throw punches in bunches by using his power and newthought ability to counterpunch from odd angles (typical Steward fighting) he'd get the recognition he's been craving.
