Taylor vs Pavlik rematch not for the middleweight belts,,,right?

OK say this fight happens at 166 as the rematch clause stipulates, even if Taylor wins Pavlik retaines the middle weight belts. Does this make sense and I mean that from the perspective of Taylor and his people? What is to gain but being able to redeem himself against a single opponent who is now in a weight class below him. Taylor fought a good fight outside of not having a plan B , you know box. I really think Stewart needed to take the foot off the pedal and tell Jermaine to utilize his faster hands but thats beside the point. Anyone have a good reason why this fight would be relevant at 166?

I think the only relevance of this fight at 166 is the struggle for both guys to make weight. Although, Taylor's camp did say that there "was no trouble making 160" this time around, but I think if they had the fight at 166 it's safe to say that both men would be in perhaps better shape since they dont have to shed those extra 6 pounds, and will be fully hydrated.

Plus, if both guys came in at that weight, and it was both of theirs first fight at the weight, there would be no "oh, they weren't used to the weight" arguments, because even if that was true, it was BOTH guys' first time there, and they were both on equal ground in regards to how their performance might improve/suffer.

I agree with the thread starter though... I think it is kind of pointless to have this fight not for the legitimate titles at 160.

Redemption whatever... Pavlik loses, he is still the man at 160. Taylor wins, he is still the ex-champion. So who gives a ****?

i disagree, even if the weight is a tad heavier. I think the belts should be on the line, since taylor could have ducked pavlik if he wanted to. So, Pavlik should be a real man and put the belts on the line, if not then he should be forced too.

            He's not allowed to.

It has to be on or under the weight for the belts to be on the line.

There allowed to do what ever the that contract says. If the contract says a certain weight and the belts are on the line and it is stated on the contract. You all are screwing taylor over. This fight would be dumb if nothing wasn't on the line

I promise you, The Ring, nor any of the sanctioning bodies will recognize Taylor as champ if he wins at 166.

How can you win a middleweight belt if the sanctioned weight is not middleweight?
