Not to be a Shane nuthugger or anything, but there are certain things about steroid usage that aren't being addressed. There are tons of designer steroids, classic steroids, and purpose-specific steroids, but almost none of them can be taken alone. Things like test boosters, estrogen blockers, blood pills - all of these things have to be taken together, otherwise you end up with a really crappy result that is very dangerous to your health. If anyone has ever actually KNOWN someone who took steroids the RIGHT way (though I do NOT endorse the use of steroids, let it be known), there is a very exact science to it. Shane might have taken steroids for injury-recovery purposes, weight-gain purposes, or any number of other things. Both sides of this argument are mostly correct - some steroids do NOT assist with boxing because they (the roids) don't focus on the areas important to boxers (twitch speed, weight control (in most cases), etc). However, stuff like EPO DOES help boxers because of the increased oxygen-in-blood capacity (although I would debate that point, since boxers sweat profusely during bouts, and dehydration is a SERIOUS concern with EPO). The point I'm making is that if Shane was on a serious steroid regimen for any reason, he probably took a combination of these things in order to facilitate reaching his desired goal.

I'd say 90% of all athletes that take steroids are taking them for either fast-recovery or weight gain. Personally I believe Shane probably jumped on some steroids to expedite his ability to fight up in weight classes. Thats just me, though. Doesn't make it right.

As for the article - Shane is an honest guy, from what I've heard, and I don't think that fans will hold the roid-usage against him, because he's never up-tight or unappreciative of the sport and what it offers him.

    Just my two pennies.
