    Filipino-Mexican Rivalry Turns Physical

    FILIPINO-MEXICAN RIVALRY TURNS PHYSICAL

A combination of patriotism, alcohol, group power, and ********, led to many brawls or potential brawls throughout every section of the Mandalay Bay Convention Center during the Pacquiao/Barrera II fight. One person tripped down the aisle when shoved by another person. It was definitely a more heated crowd then usual Pacquiao fights. Things got more out of hand in the stands after Barrera hit and hurt Pacquiao on the break in the 11th round. Maybe it was the fact that Barrera ran for most of the fight or that Pacquiao could not finish him as to why the fans seemed easily irritable during the bout. It even spilled into the fighters, Jorge Arce and Gerry Penalosa almost got into it, this after Filipino fans irked Arce. A Penalosa-Arce match would definitely ignite more passion from both sides, as both fighters are very popular in their home countries.

Is this really a big surprise to anybody? This type of **** happens everytime there's a big sports rivalry between two nations. Especially in football (soccer) or boxing. Hell, I think it was Honduras and El Salvador that actually went to war for a few days over a freaking soccer match!!!

Blame it on alcohol being served at events.

There is a Columbian player who was killed in 94 WC in USA because he scored an own goal.

There is more history into it. There was things that happen in the past and this things only show when it is on the sport field.

The idea of making a public staged sport is to bring people together but now it more of a disputes of the past re-showing itself.

There is a strong rivalery between Real Madrid and Barcalona before the they enter the football pitch the people of Madrid and Baraclona hate each other and have long history dispute between them. Even there culture is abit different.

Yeah, I remember when that player got shot after getting back to his country...messed up ****! You don't see it very much here in the States, but in other countries people really take sports rivalries big...especially when it's national pride on the line in a boxing or soccer match.

You're right though, the history between certain nations has a lot do with it. I remember watching England and Argentina play each other during a World Cup and you could only imagine the crowds from each country! Remember, those two went at it in a war back in the 80s.

There was more to it than that. El Salvador was over populated and many of its people ventured into Honduras and squatted on their land. The illegal immigrants were later kicked out by the Honduran army. Tensions were boiling between the two countries by the time the futbol match happened in El Salvador. After that match, El Salvador invaded Honduras for political reasons (Salvadoran squatters getting mistreated by the Hondurans and such).

I was thinking there had to be more to it than just the game. I was going to look it up, but thanks for the info!

However, my point was that people can react pretty crazy and violently to sporting events between representatives of two nations.
