    New WBA Scoring System

What do you all think about this (taken from WBA homepage)

October 13, 2007 - In some of the highlights of its 86th Annual Convention that finished on Friday in Chengdu, China, the World Boxing Association (WBA) announced that it will implement the use of the half point system to score its regional title fights, effective immediately.

Therefore, the WBA becomes the first international boxing sanctioning body to support the utilization of a new scoring system that may revolutionize boxing.
During the last session of the WBA Assembly, President Gilberto Mendoza explained that “there are certain great benefits of this system if you compare it with others, as it is revealed from the analysis we have performed here at our workshops.”

The workshop, held on Wednesday and Thursday, consisted in a comparison work made by six groups of officials and supervisors that reviewed some fights by using different systems of scoring, like the wide margin system, the 10 point must system with and without even rounds, and the half point system.

The half point system proved to be the most accurate as reduced the amount of inconsistent rounds in bouts with controversial decisions.

“The half point is an extra tool given to judges to have a better way to decide on close rounds and to differentiate a round won by a close margin from a round barely won. At the end of the day, the final score would reflex more accurately what had happened in the fight,” WBA Executive Vice President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza said.

“The majority of the experienced judges that have used this system so far has expressed that it gives them more freedom and flexibility to score,” Mendoza Jr. added.

The half point system will be implemented in the WBA regional bodies sanctioned title fights, like FEDELATIN, NABA, and PABA as their respective presidents have agreed with this measure to be carried during a trial period.

North American Boxing Association (NABA) President George Martinez announced that the half point system may be used next Otober 19th in Montreal, Canada, during the fight between Ionut Dan Ion against Paul Delgado for the vacant NABA Super Lightweight belt.

Also, FEDELATIN President Aurelio Fiengo confirmed that it will be used on the WBA Latin American body’s title next fights. The FEDELATIN title bouts, then, will not only have this new scoring system but also will be schedule for 11 rounds, in order to reduce the possibility of draws.

Should be a good idea, but scorecards like 115 1/2 to 113 1/2 and 116 1/2 to 112 1/2 and 118 1/2 to 110 1/2, I don't know. Michael Buffer telling use these scorecards must sound very gay
