    Muhammed Ali - Injuries

    Hey guys,

I've got a uni project on boxing and Muhammad Ali. I have been trying to find out if Muhammed Ali suffered any major injuries/concussions in his fighting career. If someone could point me in the right direction it would be really appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Boz

Henry Cooper gave him a good slap and nearly knocked him out early in his career...

Ali never was lights out in that fight though.

Ali fought some of the most ferocious and heavy hitting fighters of all time though.... plus... he fought a lot of fights over a long time.

Thanks Mickeyb. I'll look into Henry Cooper's fight.

I seem to find quiet a bit on fights that were delayed due to his opponenet being injured, but not much about Ali's injuries. Were there any other injuries that you guys can think of or remember?

Ken Norton broke his jaw, that's the only one I can think of minus the Parkinsons.

not personally, but i'm not a big Ali person myself. Theres a few in the Boxing History lounge who will definately enjoy and be able to help you out.

Also on your other thread about Ali's routines - go and ask in the the training section of the forum.

** Ali was definitely concussed by Cooper.

Then the Liston rematch was postponed due to him developing a hernia which required surgery.

Then he was concussed by Joe Frazier which made the right side of his face looklike he was growing a melon.

Norton broke his jaw in two places in their first fight. There are X-rays of the breaks floating around cyberspace. He pretty much was gunshy of Norton thereafter though they fought twice more.

He fainted in the ring at the end of Foreman and Frazier 3, both incredibly brutal fights for him.

Bob Foster opened up a facial cut, the only cut of Ali's career that I know of.

Leon Spinks knocked down his legend a few notches which was probably the biggest hurt. He was having major physiological problems at this point as documented by his doc, Ferdie Percheco who quit his camp after the Shavers fight as I recall.
