    Larry Merchant's comments last night?

Can anyone tell me what Larry Merchant was talking about at the end of the Diaz fight last night? From what he said it seemed like he was saying that the place was empty and should have been held elsewhere.

He said that it wasn't fair that the two Diaz' fought in a small arena when they were deserving to fight in MSG or Las Vegas where the crowd would have been going nuts over the action..

for some reason Juan and Julio were in David's town...lol

Basically. The ticketsales for the fight were horrible. It wasn't even a big arena and it wasn't even like 1/2 filled. Both fighteres were from the southwest (I think, or train there at least) and the fight was held in Chicago of all places.

Wow that sucks, this is DonKings doing, Juan's next fight should be in a big arena and his style will surely bring excitement to the viewers.

Oh, okay, thanks to both of you for clearing that up. Any idea was it was in David Diaz's hometown? I saw him in the crowd....

HOrrible ticket sales in an arena no where near either fighters hometown.

In Texas or California you would have seen a sizeably larger crowd

Yeah I could see only the middle area of the arena was filled but the top, etc was not....

should've been in Vegas, or in one of the fighter's hometown..

david diaz has his eye on the winner. He is more then likely going to fight Juan Diaz, cause Pacquiao or Freddie Roach is gonna want no part of Juan Diaz

yeah it wasnt the brightest of ideas to hold a fight in chicago rather than in Texas (where Juan is from) or Southern California (where julio is from).

Its one thing to hold a big fight in New York or Las Vegas (if its not the fighters hometowns or homestates) but to hold it in Chicago is NOT a good idea on Don King's part.

I expected a bit more from him (since he is always looking for the biggest money payout).

i like the way HBO angles their cameras to make it seem more packed.

you could tell by the cheering that it wasn't filled.

if this would have went down in their hometown it would have sold possibly 9,000 tickets or so.

Yeah, that's too bad it was held where it was. Unfortunately for me, I was watching it on TSN. Between rounds they go to a commercial so I missed Julio stopping. The exact same thing happened with the Diaz-Freitas fight.
