    Casamayor

I was just reading some interesting articles and Casamayor keeps on hollaring about how every fighter is dodging him like he is the most feared man in the lightweight division. I want your guys honest opinion on what you think of Casamayor and the rest of the champs at 135lbs.

As far as my opinion, I think the real champ of 135lbs. is the winner of the Diaz v Diaz fight this weekend. How can anyone question the winner if the winner holds 3 of the 4 major organizational body belts. The WBO, WBA, IBF is up for grabs in this fight.

There are so many people who want to fight the winner: Nate Campbell, Michael Katsidis, and most recently Manny Pacquiao. 135lbs. is heating up with crazy talent and we will have many fights to look forward to.

There will always be Casamayor lurking in the shadows to make claim...

However, Castillo took that title back with a KO4 over Corrales...Corrales soon became the popular favorite to be called #1 once Castillo moved up...so on name alone, Corrales was given that #1 honor that was then taken by Casamayor...

hard to say since the "linear title" was kind of up for grabs when Castillo failed weight and moved up

though Casa is looked at as the "popular" choice having been a part of that Castillo/Corrales lineage...respect is DEFINITELY due to the winner of Diaz/Diaz

only then will "a Diaz" vs Casamayor produce the REAL lightweight champ

Casamayor does seem to be heavily avoided.
Everyone seems to be waiting around for some-one else to fight him to see how much he has left.

Joel Casamayor easily. He has more on his record that both Juan Diaz and Julio Diaz put together. But for some reason he's highly avoided in that division. 'Casa is still a top dog in the sport and definitely the top guy in his weight class.

The winner of Diaz/Diaz should go on to fight Casamayor in a Unification bout. I don't see why everybody ranks Juan Diaz higher than Casamayor, because he hasn't been at the elite level Casamayor has yet. Unless you count Freitas, who some could legitimately argue was a done fighter by the time Juan got to him.

Casamayor is the linear champ. The linear title wasn't up for grabs when Castillo semolished Corrales. And with Casamayor's victory over Corrales you have the linear champ. All the Diaz' are due respect, and this weekend's winner is no doubt the number one contender, but people put too much faith in the sanctioning bodies and the belts. Casamayor might not have fought in over a year and is wasting valuable time bitching, he is still the man. There has always been champions in boxing, and they have always been based off of lineage. Sanctioning bodies are a relatively new idea in the sport and have helped create champions and have helped rank contenders, but they have never defined the champ. The linear title cannot be stripped because someone didn't pay a fee, or literally pay for the title. Thats why Clazaghe/Kessler isn't a unification match. Sure Kessler has two sanctioning body trinkets and Joe one, Calzaghe is the linear champion and Kessler is the challenger. Its this basis alone that makes the UFC credible, is that there is only one champion and everyone knows who it is. So Casamayor is the one and true lightweight champion and until he retires or loses, he is the man. Even if he isn't the best lightweight out there. Okay enough soapbox ****, who do you guys think will win this weekend?
