There was a poll recently, on a current boxing website (which shall remain nameless) that asked a very interesting question. It asked it's fans, how many of them wished they too, could get into the ring on a world class level. Now, I'm to assume they meant after all the hard work, dedication, etc. Anyway, the point is that the majority of those who took the poll (78%) said they wished they were good/great enough to be in the ring on a world class level.
I could be wrong, but I'm to assume that the same could/can be said about the majority of boxing websites out there. Nothing wrong with that. I sometimes wish I would have learned about boxing and my love for it, earlier on in life. Neither here nor there. Fact of the matter is, I'm not in the ring.
The people that are in the ring? I take my hat off to them
Here's my point. Floyd Mayweather, exciting, boring, great, overrated. Whatever you wanna call him, steps into the ring and performs to the top of his abilities. (That's the only thing I can safely say, considering I have no reason to believe he under-performs) Yet, people on this website, some of whom I'd have to assume, statistically, would love to be in his shoes, continue to disrespect him. It's incredible. He does what A LOT of you would love to do, and does it VERY well, and you call him immature names, and claim that you "hope he gets killed, right in the middle of the ring."
Bastards. The man has kids. You think that's really what needs to happen? If you like Ricky Hatton, you really think he hopes to kill Floyd Mayweather? You think he wants to have that rest on his shoulders, for the rest of his life. I don't care if you're just saying something as an exaggeration, the fact that you overstate something when you expect people to take your OPINION serious, is insulting and ridiculous.
The reasons why things like this shouldn't be overlooked are simple. One. These people are risking their lives for you. Whether they are defensive-minded about how they do it, is irrelevent. They are literally willing to die, to make money to support themselves and their families and to holefully entertain you. Yet, if the fight wasn't the "BEST FIGHT I'VE EVER SEEN" you suddenly label someone a coward and a runner. Two phrases, COMPLETELY over-used, especially when dealing with athletes in a deadly sport.
Another reason it's insane to disrespect almost all boxers is because when you go to such childish levels to try and "prove a point," it actually has the exact opposite effect. You could say something brilliant, but if you lace it with childish insults and ignorant "OWNED" smiley faces, you just seem.... ******. You want to be taken at all seriously, act like it. If posting is just a hobby, great. It is for everyone. Doesn't mean you have to act like an idiot. Darts is another hobby. Do you just throw those ****ers randomly around a bar? You don't like a fighter or his style? Say it. However you'd like, but there's a line many people cross, that is just insane. Regardless of how a fighter is portrayed, or even portrays themselves, you don't know them. Don't act like it, and don't get PERSONAL over a PROFESSION.
I'm not trying to sound preachy, I just can't stand people belittling the athletes of a sport they claim to love. I don't want to sound like I've NEVER done this, because I am in no way perfect. I just try my hardest to make sure what I'm saying isn't disrespectful for the sake of disrespect. I don't want to act like sometimes certain things just NEED to be said, either. But be careful with words. They lose value when you over-use some of them. And some of them, just don't need to be said, period. Not for moral reasons, simply reasons of intelligence. That's all.
