  • Do Americans actually care about Calzaghe vs Kessler ?

This is the biggest Super Middleweight Title fight of all time between 2 undefeated p4p fighters and it seems like Americans don't give a ****. This is obviously a huge fight in Europe and the rest of the world, except for America. Only the TRUE American boxing fans actually give a rat's ass about this fight.

How many casual American boxing fans know who Calzaghe is ?
    - probably only a few

How many casual American boxing fans know who Kessler is ?
    - probably nobody

How many casual American boxing fans know who the human punching bag Arturo Gatti is ?
    - everybody

Arturo Gatti isn't a punching bag. He might be nowadays but in his prime he was a beast. Calling him a punching bag? He would probably beat Zab Judah at this time, I would lay money on it. Gatti > Judah.

Your problem is you're thinking only in terms of "casual" fans, and casual fans don't know ****. I'm an American and I can't wait for Calzaghe vs. Kessler. I think you'll find most Americans who are loyal to the sport want to see the fight.

It's a close matchup but I'm edging more on the side of a Calzaghe UD. He's faster, has more experience, and has more at stake as far as legacy goes. But Kessler is definitely a live underdog IMO.

Gatti had UnGATTIly power (get it, ROFL!!!!) at low weights, the only reason he seemed like such a bum at 140 and particularly 147 was his reflexes were shot from all the wars and he had very minimal power at 147.

I agree that Gatti used to be a beast, but now he is a punching bag.

Zab Judah would destroy Arturo Gatti, Gatti if finished and retired

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Gatti was a helluva entertaining fighter, but he was never a beast. Never.

As for Calzaghe vs Kessler. I'm american and I sure am excited for this fight. My good friend is also. Infact Calzaghe is his favorite fighter, so I think some care.

I sure as hell dont give a damn about this fight. I have more hype on this fight as an ESPN undercard.

What if you changed America to Mexico in your thread? Or changed it into another country, wouldn't you be asking yourself, what is the point of this thread? It's always been this way man, you fight outside the US, you get less recognition.

Super Middleweight is a tough division as far as recognition goes. I wonder what your thoughts are on Calzaghe though, just genuinely curious.

Oh and Gatti was never a beast, the dude belonged in "toughman" contests at best. I've seen amateurs better than Gatti before.

How the hell do people have calzaghe as favourite, he's a clear underdog in my view.
Kessler is going to be way too powerful and skillful for this guy, who throws a a hundred slaps that have no impact.
Kessler took on Mundine who is quicker than Calzaghe, and had no trouble with him.
Bring on Calzaghe, and you watch Kessler dominate him.
