If it happens, and that's a big if Hatton should be the #1 guy in the sport. To be the man, you have to beat the man. And Floyd has certainly proven he is indeed the man in this sport. Anybody who will say "no" or that "he'd also have to beat Cotto" or any other fighter is just a Hatton hater IMO. Trying to make it even harder for him to reach the spot, it's not like Cotto would beat Mayweather, so I don't see why if Ricky beats him he wouldn't be #1.

My post is exactly why that just isnt true. Stanford beat USC, that doesnt mean they are number 1 just like that, there are other better teams that were inline for that number 1 position before that happened, same with p4p, Hatton doesnt just jump pacman like that.

Yeah but in football you've got 11 guys active per team at any given time. In boxing it's a one on one situation where only you can propel yourself to victory. That said I can also see your point about Pacquiao, and it's certainly staked in reality. So who else do you think Hatton would have to beat to become #1?

Its hard to say, because weather we like it or not, Hatton's team chooses his fights carefully, there is nothing at 140, and if he wins the undisputed WW Title from mayweather, there is no garuntee hed fight the winnder of mosley/cotto, so i really dont know. Cotto would crush him thought, im sorry, Cotto is strong, and if hatton doesnt like body punches like we saw against urango, hed be done by round 7 or 8, im sorry, if hatton went toe to toe with that guy hed get massacred. Against mosley, i dont really know, i have to see mostly against cotto before i make that desicion.

I dont know, if he went back down to 140, he could beat Malinaggi, but if Pacman beats JMM or someone like that, he still wouldnt be number 1. So its hard to say.

you cant bring in college football.....those guys have no idea how to rank....USC #1???? they arent playing anyone worth a damn this season....so how are they number 1.....boxing on the other hand is the one guy ....if you beat the champ you are the champ....but you cannot compare the ranking system of BCS to boxing at all.....I can see how they rank PBF #1 but i cannot see how they had USC #1...

none of that is my point, the point is they lost and they were number 1. Other externals that follow it are beside the issue, and as a USC fan, im not that interested in arguing a dead issue in, we lost.

Some good points in there. I think hatton/Cotto could likely be a FOTY candidate for '08. I give Hatton a chance to win the fight but as you said, he's shown against Urango that body shots hurt him pretty bad. SO I'm not sure how he'd hold up against Cotto's brutal body assault.

I think Hatton could take Malignaggi if he were able to make it a phone booth fight. Otherwise I could see Paulie sticking and moving and frustrating Hatton for 12 rounds. Even a win over Mayweather and Malignaggi may not stop Pac's momentum. He's been fighting serious guys for much longer than Hatton has, I don't think anybody would argue that.
