Get of this fairytale bull**** , how long you hold a title is governed by the level of your competition more than by how good you are , a long reign does not automaticly mean you are better or worse than any title holder ,,, Joe fought soft comp and faded bigger names for 8 of those years and was a long term title holder for that reason ,, just like Ottke , its is only been with Lacy ( still no big deal ) and Kessler that Joe has really stepped up ,, Kessler has done more in 3 yrs as far as stepping up than Joe has in 10 , you guys wear rose colored glasses .

You can only fight the people in your division and if Calzaghe was mediocre he would have slipped up somewhere down the line. I don't know how you can say Kessler has done more in three years than Joe has in 10 because Kessler has not fought better fighters than him.

If Calzaghe was any good, why would he go tooth-and-nail with slow, old, methodical lumps in Charles Brewer and this Byron Mitchell?

He didn't show me much in the Lacy fight because it wasn't against anything. You could see the tension in Lacy's shoulders at the weigh-in. He was absolutely, bloody awful. Quite literally a punching bag. I've only seen Lacy's last four fights but to me he doesn't look very good at all (infact, he looks very bad)! Maybe he was better in the past or something?

Robin Reid, David Starie, Omar Sheika, Kabary Salem, Sakio Bika - they all gave Calzaghe a run for his money! These fighters are distinctly average. Even a weight-drained Eubank at his worst, who always looked awful against southpaws, took Joe to hell and back!

I don't know where this Calzaghe myth has come from to be honest. He squares up and leaves his chin in the air like second nature, or he looks at the ****ing canvas while throwing punches - one or the other. That's not good, in my book. If you don't wail away with him, he can't do **** all but wail away himself. That's why I'm tipping Kessler, to expose him.

Your description of the Calzaghe v Mitchell fight is somewhat misleading. After a dominant first round, Calzaghe was floored in the second but recovered to floor Mitchell and then systematically decimate him. After sending Mitchell staggering across the ring the referee was forced to intervene before Mitchell came to serious harm.

Round 2. TKO. Calzaghe wins. Hardly going "tooth and nail", is it?

Calzaghe captured the vacant WBO title, October 11, 1997, knocking down two-time world champion and British boxing legend Chris Eubank twice en route to a dominating unanimous decision on scores of 118-109, 118-111 and 116-111. His impressive résumé boasts victories over former world champions Charles Brewer, Byron Mitchell, Robin Reid, and Richie Woodhall. He unified the title last year when he fought a masterclass against the previously undefeated IBF/IBO champion Jeff Lacy, the first 2000 U.S. Olympian to win a world title. The victory was so emphatic -- Calzaghe won every round of the fight -- and so important to the division, The Ring magazine conferred its prestigious championship belt upon the new unified champion, the first time in the division’s 22-year history that The Ring has ever recognized a super middleweight as its world champion. [details]

                  His impressive résumé

Charlers Brewer this ain't same Brewer that before Calzaghe fight was stopped by Antwun Echols in 3 rounds and was floored 3 times by a feather fisted old Herol Graham. Not so impressive

Byron Mitchell's only claim to fame at that time was losing controversial decision to Ottke but who didn't ?? he had few decent wins like Frankie Liles, but was also floored by a 15-3 fighter Manny Siaca and only just about winning a sd.Not so impressive

Robin Reid got outboxed by 42 year old Malinga and wern't consider that much of a threat at that time. Not so impressive

Richie Woodhall had been floored 3 times by Beyer and his only notable win before the Calzaghe fight in 2 years was against a 43 year old Malinga Woodhall was a former champ and was considered washed up.Not so impressive

                  Jeff Lacy
The man who's lights were put out by Brian Magee as an amateur in the late 90's.

The man who was trailing behind on points and being soundly-outboxed by Syd Vanderpool until he found a lucky punch to stop him.
Took the full 12 by Richard 'the Alien' Grant(whom Andrade KO in round 1)
                  Lacy ain't so great

Only one was Chris Eubank, but he weight-drained before the fight
