Jermaine Taylor's biggest flaw

Couldn't agree more...
Jermaine, certainly made a lot of mistakes he shouldn't have made.
It also appears he was over-confident of a win.
To his credit, Kelly caught those mistakes to pull it off.
I'm sure they'll meet again.

He over exerts himself WAY to much, everytime he tries to knock someone out he ends up losing most of his energy for the rest of the fight.Comment

As in regards to the Pavlik fight?
Watch Rounds 5 and 6; that is as great as Taylor can fight against Pavlik. He kept his left low because he was looking to counter and beat Pavlik to the punch with his jab as he should. He was successful at this and actually shut down the right hand for the time being.
Problem. Pavlik starts working the jab effectively and just uses that to set up the right. Pavlik won this fight with his left hand, people. When Pavlik really wanted to work it, he was scoring with the jab at will and was actually hurting Taylor with it all night. As predicted by quite a few people including myself, Taylor didn't have the foot work and offense to stop this and they were right.
Outside of Pavlik dropping his hands and making goofy faces, Taylor couldn't find the body or the head. He's not a great, busy combination puncher and will probably never be. He tried in this fight, but couldn't catch Pavlik, his defense was just too tight for him. I'm not sure Taylor could do anything better to win this fight, there's always room for improvement but he can't become a completely different fighter. It will take someone great on their feet with quick busy hands to beat Pavlik....Calzaghe maybe?
In regards to the 2. You can point out how Taylor blew his only chance but Pavlik did a great job of recovering and smothering his flurries. I don't believe he burned himself out for the rest of the fight and considering his problems offensively, that was the best shot he had at winning and it's easy now to set back and critique.Last edited by Thunder Lips; 10-06-2007, 11:00 AM.Comment

With those flailing hands, Jermain looks like a street fighter about to fight the neighborhood drunk....he's all over the place and looks amateurish, he has too many flaws to count so it's a testament to his god-given talent to fight that he was able to achieve such a high level.Comment

Well to be honest, I think he needs to do somthing with his foot work its terrible
In your opinion, what is the biggest technical mistake JT has made has over his last few fights?
I think it's his inability to keep his hands up after he throws combinations or the amatuer way he over exert himself when he goes in for "the kill".
IMO...both mistakes cost him the fight with Pavlik.Comment

His defense definitely has flaws. He kept that left hand low the whole fight and Pavlik took advantage. In the last round Pavlik connected with a right that shook Taylor and then another one that put him up against the ropes. We'll see if he changes his ways or just sticks to relying on his athletic ability.Comment

You missed like 6 stiff jabs to the face, buddy. The reasons those rights connected. You can't block a right when your getting blasted backwards by a left. Taylor didn't even have his eyes open when that last big right put him in the corner.
Taylor couldn't avoid the jab, end of story. He was getting rocked by it as early as round 1.Last edited by Thunder Lips; 10-06-2007, 11:34 AM.Comment
