  • No excuses.....

The eve of October 6th is upon us. For Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera the outcome of the fight will depend not on outside circumstances, but on their own desire to succeed. After the fight is over, there should be no excuses on either fighter's side as to why they lost, other than not being the better man.

In their first fight, Marco Antonio Barrera underestimated the then unknown Pacquiao and paid a high price for it. After he lost Barrera made a lot of excuses regarding why he lost the fight, some semi-legit (like his training camp burning down) and some not so much (like his gloves).

Pacquiao's camp immediately began to make fun of the legend Barrera for making excuses for the loss, only to then turn around themselves and make similar excuses when Pacquiao lost his first fight to Erik Morales by decision. Making such over the top excuses like, "he wasn't wearing the right socks".

Over the past several months, in the hype leading up to the big rematch, I've seen a lot of hate being spewed from mostly Pacquiao fans in regards to Marco Antonio Barrera. Some even going so far as to make fun of the man for having a metal plate in his head, as a part of a brain operation he underwent. I often wonder how far the hate can possibly go, and why the rival fans hate the others so much.

Marco Antonio Barrera is not supposed to win this fight, and Manny Pacquiao is not supposed to lose it. So regardless of what each fighter's camp or their fans say, the outcome of this fight is to be decided in the ring.

Marco Antonio Barrera knows exactly what he's getting into taking this rematch, at such a late stage in his career. For the last fight in his professional career Barrera is willingly choosing to face the #2 pound-for-pound ranked fighter in the world, and the #1 ranked man in his division. You had better believe that Barrera is taking this fight as seriously as he's ever taken any fight and training for it accordingly.

Manny Pacquiao also knows what he's getting himself into by fighting Barrera again. Despite all of his outside distractions in the Philippines (acting, running for Congress, etc...).... Pacquiao has still had a solid 2 months training with Freddie Roach and Roach himself has said Pacquiao is "training like a machine" and has stated that Manny is on track to win the fight.

So I just wanted to go on record, as a big fan of both men and say that regardless of who wins, I for one will not be making any excuses either way. It's no secret that I'm pulling for Barrera to go out with a win and end his career on top, the same way that I did for Erik Morales. But if Barrera loses, you'll hear no excuses from me.

    Pretty good. Props!.

Barrera is old in years for his weightclass and in ring years because of all the wars he has fought. That's like saying there was no excuses for Chavez's last fights or Ali's. Barrera is gonna lose but because of his age, these fights would have been in his prime and it would probably have been a different story. You can't say Marco is the same man now that he once was back in the day.

I know and understand that but Barrera has chosen to take this route. He could've easily decided to fight a low ranking opponet, but he wants to go out fighting the top dog. That's his choice, and though his age is advancing it cannot be used as an excuse now.

Manny isn't impressing me fighting Barrera again. He already beat him. Move up or go fight Guzman.

Imagine if Manny went to 140 after beating Barrera, and Hatton went back to 140 after losing to Floyd. What a fight...

You're right, but a prouf man like Barrera can not live with that loss in his record, especially since how he recieved it. I wouldn't want to go out any other way either.. Either I gave it my all trying to avenge my loss and lost or I won.. But at least you retire knowing what the outcome is instead of wondering what if?
