I think those are great assets, throw in that he fights smart (as smart as his defense allows) and his activity and he MIGHT have a chance against someone like Hopkins. And you know what? maybe he is going to be a GREAT middleweight champion, maybe he will make us forget Monzon, Hagler, Hopkins and the other greats of the division. So far I have seen him put on his ass by Taylor, and that's not a great introduction to his middleweight kingdom, like Taylor getting the gift (controversial decision, whatever you wanna call it) against a 40 year old was not a great way of getting his crown. Compare with Toney stopping Nunn, Hagler brutalizing Minter and so on...

        Very honest opinion on things...

        Only one comment though:
" I watched that fight 8 or 9 times since Saturday. I couldn’t believe they had Taylor ahead."

Interpretation.. I watched the fight 8-9 times already trying to see if I want any piece of Pavlik.
I think the answer is "No" since Hopkins is not calling him out!
No, I think Bernard was doing the same thing I was doing, watching Taylor getting knocked out over and over again for the sheer enjoyment! I know I was happy for Kelly Pavlik when the k.o. came, but I was thinking it was justice for Hopkins at last. If it was me up there knocking out Taylor I would have dedicated the fight to Bernard. Yes, I am being serious.

Monzons biggest fight was agaist blown up Welterweight mantequilla Napoles. I guess Nino Benvenuti and Blown up Welter past his best Griffith, Make Hopkins look not worthy?
        very nice post.

Hopkins' career is full of triumphs and desire unlike anybody I've ever seen. His mental games that he played were second to none. Who the **** else would think to throw the Puerto Rican flag to the ground in front of Tito Trinidad? It got him riled up, and he wanted to KO B-Hop, which in turn led to one of his best, and most technically dominateing performances ever, knocking out Tito and sending him into his first retirement.

If memory serves me correctly he was the first and ONLY person to ever knock out Oscar De La Hoya, albeit that DLH probably didn't belong at 160, but he did win a title and got his ass Ko'd. And to move up to LHW to take on Tarver, who whether or not you agree was good or not, was at that time considered the top 175 pounder in the WORLD. Hopkins DOMINATED him for 12 rounds.

Say what you want about B-Hop: He's dirty, he's too old, etc. Perhaps it's true, but don't knock what he's accomplished. I hate when people say stuff like "Oh, well he never fought nobody like Hagler or Hearns or anybody like that". That's a different era. You have to stop comparing people to different era's in boxing. 15 years down the line when there's another Middleweight champion of the world, and people are praising him somebody will say "oh, he couldn't have EVER beaten a guy like Hopkins or Pavlik." Just give it up and enjoy what you can for THIS moment, don't live in the past and knock somebody's achievements because they fought 10 years after all the other guys.

This post is even better. Thanks for telling the truth and saving me from typing it all out.

In his prime Hopkins walks all over him: Pavlik is very good and smarter than he looks, but those who think otherwise were simply not watching Hopkins in the second half of the 90s, and think that the names on his resume are ****. If Taylor had Pavlik down and could not finish the job, Hopkins would surely stop him. Too sharp, too smart, too calculated in his attack, an excellent finisher.

I am willing to change my mind if Pavlik shows me something more, which he might very well be able to do.
Based on what? Hopkins resume isn't even that impressive. Stop making excuses which are invalidated.

Hopkins shut his big mouth up against Pavlik because he knows in his mind if he had half the balls to call out Pavlik, Pavlik would surely take him on and it will be a dead Hopkins after the fight.

No wonder Hopkins isn't opening his mouth here. Coz he is afraid and he's not that ****** to get in the ring with someone like a Pavlik.

He should stick to Joppies, blown DLH's and Trinidad's for good measure and leave Pavlik's for his own good.
