The first libel action was against The Daily Record that alleged in an article in March 2007 that Warren had corruptly fixed the outcome of the Derry Matthews-John Simpson WBU World Featherweight title clash in Liverpool The Daily Record accepted that the allegations were false and promptly apologised and paid substantial damages. John Simpson was cheated, wherever the fault lies. I have my personal opinion on who Derry Mathews' "win" benefited and who had the power to "pull it off" but, given British libel law, I am not in a position to prove anything against anyone. The situation does stink though and my sympathies are with John Simpson and the fans.
