Kelly Pavlik leaped into that blue chip yacht that was being leased from Emanual Steward and broke it up. And, Jermain Taylor was chewed up and swallowed like Captain Quint in the mouth of the great white shark in the movie "Jaws". Why will Floyd Mayweather, Jr.'s fight with Ricky Hatton be any different? There is one big reason:
Unlike Steward, Floyd's handlers have no pride. They know their boy can win decisions by simply staying away, and pecking the opponent to death. Floyd has been known to figuratively sprout wings to avoid trading with a dangerous opponent. The comparison to the mythological winged horse, Pegasus, is not unwarranted. Floyd's defensive skills have taken the art of boxing to a new high, and "Lil' Floyd" will NOT be sacrificed out of pride.
So don't expect Floyd to float into Hatton's waiting jaws, for that boat will not even be in the water. The Floyd-Hatton contest will be totally different from the Taylor debacle. Floyd will be flying high saying, "Come and get me if you can." It's up to Hatton to clip his wings. How can he do it?
My analysis: Hatton must burrow in. Yes, Corley scored from the outside with the right hand, but he was a southpaw. Write Slap Slap's fight off. One could also visualize how prime Tszyu would have handled Floyd, and handle him he would with that magical counter, but IMO Hatton is no Tszyu. But, as evidenced by the Hatton-Tszyu fight, Hatton does have unique abilities of his own, and so to the N'dou fight we go. N'dou got to Floyd, but N'dou was wildly inaccurate and didn't have the power necessary to break Floyd down. Hatton has accuracy and power. Hatton must especially target the body with his left hook to eventually bring Floyd's right hand down, making him vulnerable to the left hook upstairs. If there's a way to get through Floyd's "Philly Shell," that's it, IMO.
What is your analysis Hatton supporters? Put your money where your mouth is (I am). What should be his game plan? Surely it's more than just a hope and a prayer.
