In the highly physical and give-and-take 12-rounder, Nietes floored the unbeaten #2 ranked Thai in the 4th round, and fought his way to a well-deserved unanimous decision victory.

He thus claims the title vacated by Ivan Calderon,
and becomes the 4th Filipino world champ in 2007,
the first time-ever that 4 Filipino world champs reigned simultaneously,
namely:

2. Nonito Donaire - IBF/IBO Flyweight Champion
