"This was just another fight where I showed my heart," said newly crowned WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelley Pavlik in the postfight press conference after his impressive seventh round KO of Jermain Taylor. "He came to fight. He has hand speed and a punch." Regarding a rematch, Pavlik said, "If Jermain wants it. I'm ready." Taylor stated, "I definitely want a rematch. I think Kelly's a great fighter and I would love another shot." Regarding round two when he had Pavlik on the canvas, Taylor commented, "In that second round I should have been able to throw more uppercuts. I can't believe I lost. I take my hat off to him, he got knocked down and came back."
Trainer Emanuel Steward stated, "It was one of the greatest fights I've ever seen. Pavlik would have been a threat to anybody. I never thought Kelly had that much speed." Promoter Bob Arum called it "one of the best middleweight fights I've seen. Right now it's second to Hagler-Hearns."Although, there is a rematch clause, Arum recommends that both fighters take an interim fight, with Pavlik possibly making his first defense against John Duddy on the eve of St. Patrick's Day 2008 in Madison Square Garden.
