Pavlik throws really powerful punches BUT

they sure don't look powerful to the untrained eye. They don't look spectacular in TV but of course the effect tell us otherwise.

His punches reminds me of Pacquiao whose punches don't look powerful until his opponent gets knocked down. Watch the first Morales fight. You really couldn't tell if Pac was that powerful a puncher. Hell you'd think that Erik was more powerful. But those in the know have Pac winning those rounds because they know that his punches were much more effective and powerful than Morales.

Pac lost the first fight because his punches didn't look spectacular. The same would've happened here with Pavlik had Jermaine not gone down. Both Pac and Pav HAVE to knock down their opponents before the judges start wising up.

Yup, he also shows you don't have to be a huge guy like Taylor to pack a mean punch.

I think even the HBO guys over looked some of Kellys punches, it wasn't one punch that hurt Taylor, it was at least three different punches, he dented his chin, dented it again, and then cracked it...

I agree with you on Pavlik's punches. They don't seem to have what may be called "cinematic effect." And, when they land no sound of the type that has come to be associated with power comes from them. Moreover, the way he throws them is so ordinary (jab-straight, jab-jab-straight). In spite of that, yes, they're powerful. Miranda attested to that along with the 27 others before him. Now Jermain joins the ranks as the latest victim of that deceptive punch.

A latest gauge perhaps of how hard Pavlik punches is the way he had Taylor backtracking unto the ropes in several occassions. Taylor, though notoriously cautious to a fault, does not have a suspect chin-- at least not until now in the eyes of some, perhaps. But, he he backed up. Out of caution? PErhaps. or, he must have felt something he didn't quite like to get him on his heels.

Although it didn't seem to the judges that the several rights to the temple area and the chin had much effect on Taylor it was there and Taylor knew it. He felt it. He felt it enough to think that he was losing the fight, as has been reported.

Anyhow, the judges may not have appreciated those punches but they were the ones that took the verdict out of the judges hands.

****...Taylor felt even the jabs. Pavlik's jabs were very sharp and he dictated the fight with them.

Yeah it is a true power jab. Punishing to say the least!

True, as I recall, Pavlik's jabs were there from the gitgo. He forgot them a few times, but soon had them going again. Those were stiff ones. One landed just below Taylor's nose and turned Taylor's face, momentarily, into a macabre picture.

The thing was, Taylor and his corner appeared to have been impervious of the deceptive effectiveness of the jab-straight, jab-jab-straight and jab-jab-jab straight. And, Pavlik just kept connecting, albeit, without fanfare.

I agree. Pavliks jab is a BOMB. Look at what it did to Taylors in the post fight interview. Just like I predicted. Severe swelling. He looks just like Edison Miranda did after his fight with Pavlik.

Again, Pavlik is like Margarito. They arent the flashy power guys, they just have heavy hands. All of there shots hurt and stay with you for a long time. They dont have to have great speed because there hands are so heavy that they can keep you in place with one shot until the next one comes. To me they look very heavy and hard when you watch them but I guess you mean they dont look as fast and crisp as other guys

Margarito doesn't have power, or defense, or intelligence.
