    My thoughts on Taylor/Pavlik

No doubt about it; the referee stopped the bout at exactly the right time.

if that would have played out taylor could have been seriously injured due to the fact he was pinned in the corner and pavlik was painting him with shots and taylor had nowhere to go.

I may be a taylor fan but i can give an honest opinion on the fight and unless you are going to ball wash either fighter you cant really complain with this:

    A) Either fighter could have one (both were knocked down; both were hurt; both showed heart; both showed tremendous courage)

    B) the stoppage was correct (you'd be a fool to let that continue for more than 2-3 more seconds than the referee did)

    C) you have to admire taylor's courage for going toe to toe (especially in the opening 3 or so rounds). i thought taylor was just talking trash by saying he'd go toe to toe but once the fight began i can see why he said it and he actually shined through...he even put pavlik down and that surprised me; i didnt think he could do that

    D) taylor DOES have a chin. He took MANY punches (as did pavlik) over the course of those 7 rounds and eventually it wore him out and he was defeated.

Pavlik looked red hot after the 4th/5th round.

when pavlik went down in the 2nd i was in awe and thought taylor would be able to put him away before the end of the next round and he looked well on his way until he got tired and let pavlik regain his balance...but directly after the knockout pavlik looked in big trouble and i love the fact he was able to comeback.

do i think there will be a rematch?

yes. taylor has a lot of pride and in my opinion he should be silencing his critics due to the fact he showed that heart and put pavlik down in the 2nd and showed he can go toe to toe. its very honorable of taylor.

it was a great fight and i'd like to see a rematch no matter who won this fight...it could have went the distance...pavlik ko'd...taylor ko'd...or a draw and i'd still want to see it again. it was an incredible fight and it exceeded my expectations and was a pleansant surprise to see it on regular HBO (instead of PPV).

this is going to be the real test for jermain taylor now...not about a rematch with pavlik but his future...this is the time to see if taylor can bounce back from a loss or do like other fighters have in the past and that is snowball downhill to a fighter who is lucky to get a fight on WNF or FNF...

im hoping taylor can make a comeback (whether he fights pavlik again or not) and one day be a champion again. he gave us all great fights (taylor v. hopkins I and II...taylor/wright).

and im going to be looking forward to kelly pavlik defending his title or possibly going up in weight classes and seeing what he can do there. he's without a doubt what i call an exciting, "old school" fighter.

It doesn't matter, Steve Smoger stopped the fight because Jermain wasnt getting up.

If you get up, Smoger will let you fight on for atleast another 2 min.

          jermain wasnt getting up?

he never hit the ground until smoger stepped in...

he stopped the fight BECAUSE taylor was getting nailed while being pinned against the ropes.

the only thing i disagree on is you saying taylor "gave us all great fights". in no way, shape, or form was either fight with hopkins "great". the winky fight was pretty good, but i wouldnt give taylor credit for giving us a "great fight" that night.

other than that, you make valid and honest points. good K on the way.

Everything you said was fair and I agree. I can't wait for the rematch. I think Taylor can win. He almost won tonight. the move up will benefit him. I'd like to see Pavlik vs Wright if Pavlik beats Jermain again.

yes, they are both great fighters and its good to see both a white, blue collar type fighter succeed in a sport where they are a minority these days, and a black fighter fight like a man for hometown pride and not push any ****** lifestyle. Both true role models.
