    How good is Taylor, really???

I'm just curious about how good Taylor really is.

On one hand he fought even with Hopkins and Wright. Say what you want but those are still two very top guys and he was right there with them, having more natural ability at this time than either. However, ring history is filled with guys that based on amateur background and physical skills you would expect to be great but do not turn out that way...something is just missing ... guys like Johnny Bumphis, Bernard Taylor, Mark Breland and even Andrew Maynard come to mind.

Taylor may simply be a very good but not great fighter despite what appears to be great skills. It's interesting that Manny is talking so much here. It's not his style. It appears something has caught his eye somewhere and he's trying to motivate Taylor. I don't believe he has any reason to make Pavlik look bad. Why would he? It would diminish the luster off a huge Taylor win and all Manny's own accomplishment.

Steward in recent years has always talked up a bunch of BS to build up confidence in his often self-esteem challenged yet physically talented fighters. I remember him saying before Klitschko fought cruiserweight journeyman Eliseo Castillo that Castillo was a tougher opponent than Chris Byrd. He's been saying similar things regarding Cintron recently and how Kermit easily dominates all the other welters right now.

Taylor has natural ****iness but the criticism after his performances vs Wright, Ouma, and Spinks have affected him no question.

He is as good as his last 4 fights, meaning he's getting knocked out Saturday. I would bet all my pints except that I don;t know how.

I think the thing that was left to question was when is he going to fight an opponent that doesn't make him look like ****.

For real... beside Ouma (no excuse, but he did win a decision by a wide margin), he has fought:

Hopkins - The master of ring control... I don't know how the **** he does it, but people just give up when they are in the ring with him. Jermain didn't... he looked a lot better than anyone I have seen against Hopkins (except for Roy Jones Jr.)
Wright - Uhhh, yeah, the guy who made Sam Soliman land 10 out of 333 jabs... the guy who embarassed Tito Trinidad because he can't be hit. No one looks good against Wright... even so, he looked good in the middle of the ring, and looked good if he didn't let himself get backed into the ropes. Not a lot of people look good against Wright anywhere in the ring.
Spinks - Hard to hit a moving target... and this was the least stationary target possible for Jermain to pick. Jermain did more than enough to win this fight... because Cory didn't do ****. Jermain tried to bring the fight to Cory, but Spinkster was in and out before he could do anything. The only thing missing from Cory's game was trying to hit Jermain. It was not a display of boxing and moving, it was a display of running, straight up.

For real, when is the last time we saw Taylor fight someone who is not going to back down or do some incredibly weird ****. Pavlik will put offense first, meaning Jermain will be able to counter. I think we will see the rebirth of the greatness of Bad Intentions.

I had Hopkins winning the first fight, Taylor winning the second. I had the Taylor fight a draw (I earlier scored it for Taylor - but at that time I had my HBO goggles on), and I had Spinks winning (Yeah, I'm controversial...sue me).

          Not exactly convicining though.

But it is TOP NOTCH competiton. You are right. Pavlik is a great fight for him, IMO. Pavlik can batter him but Taylor also has the chance to look good.
