I set up FloydIsDaBest a week ago as a spoof of ill-educated, unnecessarily antagonistic fans of Floyd Mayweather. I think Floyd's attitude stinks, but he's great as a boxer - it's just that sadly, a lot his fans succumb to a certain stereotype: poor grammar, poor education, outrageously xenophobic, etc. My inspiration was actually DiegoFuego, who comes out with some hilarious stuff like "Oscar took the photos on purpose because he hates Floyd and wanted the limelight".
The idea was, I'd come out with some outrageously ******, badly spelt concepts - Hatton has no chance because the UK never landed on the moon; Hatton trains in a sand-covered bear pit; Hatton wrestles with eels as part of his sparring - and LMAO (or should that be LAMO??) as the worst kind of Floyd fans agreed.
However, I was delighted to see that not only were a lot Floyd's fans soon in on the joke, but they were also engaging, polite and thoughtful - everything that a poster on here should be, in fact. I'm chiefly thinking of SpeedKillz here.
However, I must give a shout out to two notable exceptions:
* DIOZ, who said that one of Floydisdabest's "witticisms" was "one of the funniest things I've ever read on the internet".
:wank:
* SonOfIsis, who says Floydisdabest's posts about "anyone who doesn't like Floyd must be a certified racist" and agreed with it heartily.
Also quite funny to see a few fellow Limeys take the bait, though, as with the US members, most of 'em quickly cottoned on to the fact that it was all a scam.
In closing, this has been a rewarding experiment IMO - the fact that a poster can come on here, say the most moronic and idiotic things with an absolutely APPALLING standard of education and 80% of the forum thinks he's a real and regular poster. Makes you think, doesn't it?
Take care all,
love Anorak
