    Boxing bad for posture?

Hey guys, I heard that boxing is bad for your posture because it causes the shoulders to develop crouched in like you hold them in a boxing stance. Anyone know if this is true or not?

I developed "lumbago" as a 15 year old due to boxing. I was a hunchback kid to begin with but boxing really messed up my back. One day, I threw a left hook, and the disc in my back just went really funny, couldn't walk for a month and a half. I was going through different rehabilitation processes until I found a health center that dealt with physical abnormalities and pains. Began going there every day for a year and now my back is as straight as a desk.

Didn't mean to scare you but you have to be conscious of your posture especially if you're hucnhed up and/or have lower back problems.

Wow, do you still box now?

I wasn't aware that boxing can cause back problems, I only heard it affects shoulder development.

i am born with lax joints... the left hook makes my shoulder dislocate.. boxing ISNT to blame though. my sticky tight joints are.

Versy do you think i should get my ligaments stapled? and bone cut slightly so it don't rub against my ribs? lol i get popping cracking and grinding noises when i shrug my shoulders and/or throw a left hook.

After I got my back straightened out I started doing boxing again and did it for about a year with no problems. I was constantly doing exercises to strenghten my lower back and was careful with my posture.

No, I quit the sport but it had nothing to do with lower back pain.
