    Michael Dokes

In 1999 Dokes was sentenced to between four and 15 years in prison after being convicted of an attack on his fiancee in August 1998. Does anyone know if he's out of prison yet?

Thoughts on him and his career?

    Thanks.

Good question! I nearly forgot about him after all this time. I am pretty sure that he is still in there and going to serve his full sentence as well as a lifetime parole. I remember that he was in serious trouble of getting a life imprisonment sentence, so he is lucky to only get 15 years.

I thought he would be up for parole soon, but I guess I'm mistaken. I always felt Michael career was rushed from the get-go, when he was an amateur. He was arguably the fastest heavyweight in his prime, but his talent never developed to the point where he could've been a dominant fighter. And when the drugs took over, it was the beginning of the end. By right, he should've handled Weaver better the second time around, but that only added to the questions that were handy since the first Ocasio fight.

He had good handspeed for Heavyweight i remember when he had exhibition fight with Muhammad Ali that was funny i remember he was very lucky to hold on to his World title in controversial draw with Weaver in there second fight he was knocked out brutally by limited Gerrie Coetzee but funny enough he comeback about 6 years later and gives prime Holyfield one of his toughest fights i think Dokes was a bit of wasted talent like most of 80s Heavyweights but he was still limited.

If Dokes had fought the likes of Snipes, or Tillis, or Cooney, he would've definitely been a better heavyweight.

As far as I know he's still in the Big House. Dokes was a very talented fighter that fell victim to the ******* era. Probably one of the biggest underachievers in heavyweight history despite him being a title holder. The assault he is doing time for was pretty bad from what I understand.
