De La Hoya vs Vernon Forest 2008

Forget about a De La Hoya/ Ricky Hatton "Showdown". The only sense that makes is the "Global notoriety", which has already been established with the De La Hoya/ Mayweather Event and now with Mayweather/ Hatton. I say Bring on Vernon Forrest. This would be an excellent match-up since the two are pretty much at the twilight of their careers. Each possess an infamous "Money Punch", De La Hoya, the Devastating left hook and Forrest, the Crushing overhand right. Style-wise, they are definitely polar oppposites. Both fighters have A level boxing skills, each demonstrating relative speed. It woud be interesting to see how they would hold up once their respective "Signature Punch" has landed. If Styles make fights then this should make for an epic battle. These two combatants should suare off in the early part of 08'. De La hoya was recently quoted as saying "I enjoy Fighting, I prefer fighting and mixing it up as opposed to fighting slick styled boxers". Well Vernon Forrest happens to be a Fighter who enjoys mixing it up as well. They have something in Common after-all. Let's make the fight happen. De La Hoya/ Forrest, "Battle of the ages".

Not enough money and I think Forrest would be a little too dangerous. Yeah he might mix it up but what if he just decides to box DLH and uses his range and power...DLH would be pretty much ****ed.

Wow! thats's the excuse Oscar ALWAYS eluded to. That's why I have always respected Mosley more. At this point, with De La Hoya's Office drawing power, he would have no problem convincing the public to buy into this fight. Hell, they allowed him to purchase the most Important Boxing magazine in the sport (Ring Magazine); go figure...anything is possible. Bottom line, he avoided him back then and he will do it now. Upcoming fighters without a financial cushion can use this lame excuse.

Maybe you misunderstood the post. I am a bonafide Mayweather fan. The point that I was trying to make is. The only reason Oscar, (Not I) is publicly advocating a Hatton win, has something to do with HIS own personal agenda. My point: Why look at the much smaller Hatton, when you could target a more even match-up in Forrest. Their polar opposite styles suggests an interesting Battle. Besides, after Mayweather disposes of Hatton the fight would be pointless.

You guys are right the money wouldn't be right, so this fight would probably not happen. I don't know if I would really want to see it though.

Cotto or Hatton is a much better fight.

                  Wait a minute.

Oscar did 975K with Mayorga. You think that Forrest would do much worse?

Vernon doesn't need a big purse. Besides, didn't Oscar say that GBP would be good for boxing? That means the competitive fights. Not just what pays off his yacht.

I got Vernon winning by UD.. Too strong, too rangy, to slick, and the volume of punches will overwhelm DLH.
