    How can this be?!!?

I am watching ESPN tonight and they have poker championships on there? Prime time TV coverage?? On E...S....P....N???? WHY? Man, seriously, card games are on ESPN and the players are getting profiled and covered like they are Floyd Mayweather, Derek Jeter and Barry Sanders all rolled into one? What's next... Poker in the Olympics? I woul dsay that any "sport' that you could be 1- 200 pounds overweight 2- Smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol and smoke dope on a regular basis in preparation for the event 3- Be a senior citizen and 4- You could never have jogged, lifted a weight or done a push up or sit up in your life yet you can still be the worl champion of the event..is not a SPORT!!!

I concur fully, these are not SPORTS, and should never be considered as such.

The one thing that bothers me is they do like Bio's on some of the big poker players like they've "trained" so hard to get where they are.

its basicaly: "i play poker for 14 hours a day online entering in many tournaments, my wife left me and i've gained alot of weight while doing this but it was a sacrafice i had to make in order to achieve greatness"

not a sports, but a ratings giant and every network is starting to cash in on the poker craze.

That wouldn't be a sport, it would be a dream come true.

It's like when they have billiards. That's not a SPORT...not an ESPN/OLYMPIC level one anyway. You have to draw the line somewhere.....otherwise next you will have Monopoly in there.

you have a problem with drinking, smoking, etc before a game or match? many, many athletes do things you would be surprised about. before a game or in off season.

me, i do not like the idea of poker as a sport. it is more of a game.

i have my own definition of "sport" and "game" when it comes to this topic.

                  - a sport is basically a competitive activity that uses a combination of physical movement and refined coordination. football is a sport. boxing is definitely a sport. even billiards could be classified as a sport - it uses trained physical movements and requires a very refined level of coordination. trick shot billiards is especially cool.

                  - a game is generally a competitive activity that does not necessarily require the use or need for physical ability and coordination. poker is a game, chess is a game. and competitive spelling is definitely a game according to this definition.

True, that it is not a sport.

However, it is my second love to boxing, so I'm not going to ***** too much.

The way it has changed since they started covering poker though has made it damn near unbearable.
