It's totally irrelevant what Arthur does for the rest of his career. He will only ever be remembered for that humiliating thrashing he took in his own back yard. By an Englishman.
    Gomez was born in Ireland.

      Arthur announces December defence

Alex Arthur will make the first defence of his interim WBO super featherweight title on 15 December at Edinburgh's Meadowbank Stadium.
No opponent has yet been confirmed, although it will not be Joan Guzman, who holds the full WBO title.

The Dominican champion has limited time left before he has to face Arthur and still has not indicated whether he will take on the Scot or vacate the title.

Arthur, 29, stopped Koba Gogoladze in July to claim the temporary crown.

Although Guzman is widely tipped to step up a weight level, the Scot would relish the opportunity to test himself at the top level.

"I'd love to fight Guzman," said Arthur.

"He's part of the elite group of maybe four or five super-featherweights, and I plan to gatecrash their party.

"I've had a long apprenticeship and now it's time for me to get some big fights.

"I want to fight three or four times in 2008 and establish myself as the best superfeatherweight in the world.

"I had some bad cuts against Gogoladze, but I will be able to start sparring soon, and I'm already training for my fight in December.

"I've not fought in Edinburgh for 18 months, so I'm sure the fans will come out in force and give me plenty of support."
