this is great for boxing, oscar de la hoya everyone will be watching this,
it has to be a toe to toe fight so that boxing can gain more fans,
and i think that's what dlh is gonna do, wow he is a smart man,
i wonder if that tune-up will be @ welter div.

If Oscar fights on free TV, it won't be against anyone who will present much of a challenge, as he'll be trying to piggyback it into a megafight.

Funny how Oscar makes one comment during an interview and it turns into an entire thread. Every soundbite makes for big news, I guess - but I wouldn't put much into this thread...

Oscar either leads the media on, or changes his mind too much. I personally wont believe it until I see it. But if this actually goes down then major props to him. Especially if he really means free TV (ABC, NBC, CBS). I don't expect him to go after the top ten guys like most do. I actually see him going after an Alfonso Gomez type of guy. Maybe a guy like Urkal, who will give him some needed rounds, while not being too much of a threat with his lack of power.

I'd love to see de la Hoya have a tuneup on free-tv. He'd gain alot of respect thinks me.

That would be my first pick, alfonzo gomez. If ODH has anything left of what he used to have he should win, but it wouldnt be a blowout which would make for a good fight.

Emanuel Augustus would be ok, but you dont know which version your getting. If you get the one that showed up against Kid Diamond it would be a short night, if you get the one that gave FMJ a tough fight or the Augustus/Ward fight you'd at least get your moneys worth and some more.

I say give him Paulie Malanaggi. Paulie was talking about coming up to 147 to fight JCCjr, and he wants to be a star so bad I cant see him turning down Oscar. Benefits for Oscar would be, Paulie has no power, Paulie would sell the fight, Paulie's talking would still motivate Oscar or "get the blood boiling" as Oscar likes to say, Paulie is a legitimate world champion, and as a tune-up Paulies speed would get Oscar ready a Floyd rematch.

More and more I am convinced that Oscar De La Hoya is the best thing to ever happen to boxing.

                    He always scheduled great fights.
He doesn't **** people over when he promotes.
He does things for the fans so they don't lose interest.

                    Just tremendous.

this sounds like a fantastic idea! and whoever first came up with the Alfnoso Gomez suggestion, excellent job on that, imo thats the PERFECT matchup.
