Mayweather's style - dissapointing?

Fine post. When will Floyd finally secure his legacy by throwing down with a quality fighter? It may be never and his legacy will be forever disputed as a result. That's too bad. One has to wonder what he may be hiding. It it limited power? A weak chin? What? Perhaps his undefeated record is too precious to him to risk. IMO he would gain more by throwing down and losing a real battle, than running his whole career and then retiring undefeated. People respect a battler. Getting off the canvas for a comeback is the mark of a true champion. Of course, throwing down and winning shoots his career into the stratosphere.Floyd since the Castillo fights, which were both very close and many (including myself) think Jose Luis deserved the decision in the first fight, has picked and chosen his opponents very carefully. His biggest challenge from a style viewpoint was Zab Judah but Judah had displayed before and since he is your classic front-runner who loses heart when things aren't going his way.
I was never a Floyd fan but respected him as a boxer. After Oscar turned out to have more left than FLoyd's team expected and Floyd responded by running and trying to pot-shot his way to a decision, my respect for him as a boxer has diminished. He has great skills from basically growing up in the gym but when it comes to having that something extra to be a great champion, he just doesn't have it. He showed it in the Castillo rematch and he showed it here. And it's not about being slick defensively.
Ali and Ray Leonard were both slick 'pretty boy' boxers who hated to get hit . . but does anyone imagine in similar situations them not trying to seal the deal and close strong vs a 34 year old partially retired fighter?
The funny thing is, as someone stated Floyd is going to demand even more money to ever step into the ring again.
But this fight HURT his marketability. The casual fans who watched the fight with me all said "I'm never paying to see that guy again"
In boxing, there is slick, and then there is safety first. Slick can win fights, and be entertaining-Loughran-Braddock for example . . .Loughran in the later rounds fired beautiful combinations and displayed footwork that was as smooth as silk. Floyd stared, jogged, and then tried to fire some one-punch duds which were mostly blocked by a guy who's never been known to be great defensively.Comment
