Mora back in the ring Oct. 16 on ESPN Classic

This was in Dan Rafael's notebook today.

    • A week after middleweight Sergio Mora (19-0, 4 KOs), the winner in Season 1 of "The Contender," agreed to fight on the undercard of Alfonso Gomez's bout with Ben Tackie, his opponent was revealed. He'll face Elvin Ayala (18-2, 8 KOs) Oct. 16 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Mora was scheduled to face Kassim Ouma Sept. 15 on an HBO PPV card, but it was canceled, so "Contender" promoters offered Mora, idle since August 2006, a spot on Gomez's card. Mora-Ayala will be the first live bout to ever air on ESPN Classic (9 p.m. ET). It will come on just before the main event airs live on ESPN (10 ET). Ayala's only losses were competitive decisions to David Banks, a participant in this season of "The Contender."

Duddy V. Mora could be interesting but I get the overall sense he is not looking too forward to an Ouma match.

you now what, i think Duddy could beat Mora. Mora likes to brawl, and these two guys would probably end up slugging it out. Id favor Mora, but its a close fight IMO.

And Mora has no chance against either Taylor or Pavlik. He would just get destroyed.

I think even Ouma is gonna be Mora, but thats more or lessa pick 'em fight.

i think moras a good fighter too, and definetly a better fighter, but something about Duddys will power, punching power, and heart tells me he has more then just a punchers chance.

I cant blame anybody that agrees with you, but a lot of people underrate Duddy. Hes not the best fighter, and Mora is certainly a step up, but on the inside he's pretty talented. And considering thats where the fight will be fought, on the inside, i think they are closely matched there.

On the other hand if Mora boxes its an easy win, but he likes to brawl.

And IMO, the lead right or straight right is more effective then the uppercut against duddy

The more exciting news for me is that Gomez is fighting Ben Tackie.. Staying at the level he moved up to when he fought Gatti. That's good to hear.
