    The Southpaw Stance

are all southpaws natural lefties?... if you feel more comfortable fighting with your right hand as a jab, is there any problem with it? Why are fighters taught to initially fight orthodox anyway???
do any of ye have the answers?

I think it is pretty simple, I am a natural southpaw, and i fight southpaw stance because my left is naturally much stronger than my right, so in southpaw stance, I use the right to keep away with a jab, not to really do significant damage, and if I get the chance with a flush, a left hand would be much more effective. If i was an orthodox I think I would be very weak I can't rely on my right hand's power at all. That probably goes the same for righties.

      im naturally orthadox...

however i feel just as comfortable as a southpaw so i switch it up during the fight...

i dont HAVE to fight one way...i usually start out orthadox but switch to:

      A) see if it gives me an advantage

      B) confuses the other boxer.

im naturally right handed. however even natural right handers can be natural southpaws and visca versa.

i can do some things left and right handed like swinging a bat (if anyone doesnt know that would be called a switch hitter) however i cant toss a ball left handed at all...

boxing is something i can to from both sides however (since im a natural right handed person) i noticed my left arm is actually stronger than my right.

Good question, and not an easy answer. I was orthodox, but i learned to switch up. Reason is, if you have a highly coordinated right hand and switch up, you can hook off the jab to the body or head with much power. I was much more coordinated in orthodox naturally, but there were times where switching up helped tremendously.

Southpaws do everything backwards. They are rare in boxing, but the good ones tend to be very good. Trainers will try to teach everyone from an orthodox stance, but in my opinion it's a mistake. I would never take an orthodox guy and turn him lefty unless he was phenominal and could still generate decent power with the left.

The reason switching is bad is most skilled opponents will know to look for the lead hook if they have done their homework and know the guys power is in the right hand!

This is why the left hook is considered the most threatening punch in boxing.

I feel power in both my hands, so I like to switch it up my stance, southpaw and orthodox is the cotto way.

Reiterates my point. Great power in the left and decent power in the right.

If oscar had devestating power in the right he would have been crazy!

what if ye feel more comfortable working yer right as the jab, but ye don't pack as much power in the left?... Better to just mantain orthodox stance?

Oscar was pretty crazy anyway, in his prime. He just should never have fought Hopkins. His ego got the best of him in that one. B Hop was way too big. That loss put Oscar on the permanent skid.
