9-11-01? I got up to do roadwork.... was going to run with a female friend of mine. She tells me to check out the TV, a PLANE HIT THE WTC. I ASSUME IT WAS A FREAK ACCIDENT. I start watching.. popped in VHS tapes and recorded it live ( I still have three full VHS tapes from that day). I am watching.. on the comp, too, and I have numerous IM boxes going at the same time. People all over the USA are relying on me to give them updates! They are in office buildings with no TV or radio. All of a sudden I see the second plane coming.... BAM, it hits , this is SURREAL NOW!!.... they say that a plane went down in Pa.... a plane hit the Pentagon and right away I am picturing "Independance Day" with Will Smith. I am picturing that we are at war NOW and that throughout the day cities all across the USA will be hit in similar fashion. L.A., Chicago, Dallas, etc etc. Friends of mine on IM have all stopped working and the entire office is sitting there waiting for me to tell them whats going on. It's like some of your worst fears as kid are coming true. When I was 12 years old I pictured this happening with us and Russia and it felt on 9-11 just like I pictured that it would. Watching all that and feeling all that, you had tpo figure the world would be different place by 9-12... I remember just hoping that the entire country didnt get taken over by looters. I actually figured Hartford by the end of the day, if it wasn't hit with some missiles, would at least be taken over by looters.
And you know whats crazy? Imagine all the kids in the world, ten years old, who go through bombings and violence and looting and car bombs and terrorism almost every single day. Its as common to them as Sunday football in New York.
