Atlas and Tessitorre. As far as I am concerned Atlas could well be on the way to becoming the heir apparent to Merchant.

You really think so? Personally I dont find him enjoyable to listen to at all. He tends to repeat himself over sort of trivial things. Even if important, we got the point Teddy the first 7 times you said it. In fact I noticed that without you saying anything at all.

To be fair though I think he has less to work with than the fights ESPN had when Scott LeDoux and Bob Papa were the annoucers.

I'm not big on Scott LeDoux as an announcer, but Bob Papa and anyone is normally my first choice. Papa is easily the best announcer in the sport, and can make ANY co-host look/sound good. Just look at the difference between when it was Papa and Teddy, and now with Joe and Teddy.

In fact the more I think about it, while Tessitore isn't a bad announcer, he's a bad set-up man. He doesn't ask the right questions (like Papa does) nor does he have any control over Atlas. Marv Albert also meshed well w/ Teddy during the 2004 Olympics. Hell, Teddy was even pronouncing most of the names right! Compare that to when Tessitore and LeDoux (and also Tessitore and Kellerman) were calling Tuesday Night Fights a few summers ago - horrible!

So, Papa and LeDoux for the sake of this discussion.

In terms of getting his facts straight and not really giving anyone a free bull**** pass I like Teddy. His resence is refreshing and he does imo bring very useful insight to the fights and fighters.

Side note: When Merchant's gone a big void is going to be left to be filled.

The drunken monologs, incongrous analogies, etc. I'll miss it when it's over.

I dont know what that means, he over orrates and over imposes what he wants to be known of the fight rather than just letting people sit back and think for themselves. analysts are not supposed to talk as much as he does, no other one does or ever has.

“Here's a guy that was running away from the pack like Secretariat winning the Belmont by 30 lengths, and now people are starting to question the quality he was running away from. Exactly what was he 30 lengths ahead of? ... But now that he's lost and lost in devastating fashion, I think people are asking that question louder and more often.”

“It's a terrible situation when the best I can say for some of these judges is that they're incompetent. Because the other alternative if they're not incompetent is that they're corrupt.”

Teddy says stuff that needs to be said. Now not withstanding he's a looney gangster guy that still needs to be said.

Actually, I liked Teddy WITH Papa, before Joe T. came onboard.
