Team Witter respond to Harris claims...

... I got this from elsewhere in relation to vivian harris's sour g****s spiel:

I am suprised that before this interview was allowed to be posted on this website that whoever conducted it didn't bother to check the facts, with either the British Boxing Board of control http://www.bbbofc.com (contact numbers and email addresses are available),or Hennessey Sports the promoters of the contest. http://www.hennessysports.com/main.asp.

Vivian Harris was given the choice of when he arrived in the UK WBC rules usually indicate not less than 7 days. Also the BBB of C who control the boxing in the UK insist overseas fighters should arrive in plenty of time usually about a week.

His Hotel and food were paid for from the day he arrived all he had to do was sign the bills to his room account which was taken care by the promoter.I think the confusion here is that after his gym work out Harris insisted that the Driver took him to Mc Donalds.

It is true Harris trained in the Gym used by Witter.By this time Junior had finished his gym work.Harris turned up Friday evening 31st August about 5pm the ring was cleared and Harris and his team were given free reign.
He came in Saturday Sunday and Monday of the fight week at about 11am the gym was closed and only he and his team were allowed in.

There is no CCTV in the gym so he couldnt be spied on,the only water available comes from a tap and there is no food on offer.

Team Harris were shown every respect and had a driver at their disposal to be taken wherever they wanted to go.Harris even had the driver, drive from the Hotel 2 miles in distance so he could gauge the length of a 4 mile run.Harris would then run 2 miles out and 2 miles back.Even though the Hotel has a state of the art gym with excellent CV machines Harris preferred to road run.

The WBC insist a fighter completes a 28 day check weigh before the fight, the fighter is only allowed to be certain percent over his fighting weight.Harris and Witter both did this.7 days before the weigh in, another check weigh is performed Harris was 144lbs on the 31/08/07,Witter was 143.5 and then 2 days before the weigh in another check weigh is performed. The British Boxing Board of Control enforce these check weighs and they have to be completed by a certified BBB of C Doctor or official. At the official weigh in Witter weighed 139lbs 8oz Harris was 139.If you check Junior Witters website www.juniorwitter.com there is video footage of both fighters weighing in.I will leave it to you to decide who is in the best shape.

After the weigh in a rules meeting is conducted by the officials of the contest, representatives of both Harris and Witter must be present.Lennox Blackmore for Harris and Dominic Ingle for Witter were in attendence. All the judges and the referee were also there and the WBC supervisor.
The rules meeting cover various aspects of the contest, but it also specifies what time the fighters must arrive at the contest (8pm in this case) and what time the fighters will be bandaged(this was agreed to be 9pm).Booth teams were informed that apart from a BBB of C official or WBC representative being there to oversea the bandaging and taping procedure a representative from each team is also allowed to see the opposition bandage and glove up this is a rule each fighter has the right to enforce it.

Team Witter did observe the bandaging of Harris,Team Harris didnt. The bandages once completed are signed over by an inspector of the BBB of C if any more tape is applied or anything is tampered with it will be obvious to the inspector who signed it and foul play will be obvious.

It is common for modern day fighters to weigh in 24hrs before a fight at one weight and enter the ring on fight night at another.Ricky Hatton and Carlos Boldamir are rumoured to gain between 14-18lbs.Junior does increase his weight to a safe well hydrated level. With electrolytes, water and isotonic sports drinks and a very good diet.It is fair to say that Junior would have outweighed Harris by a fair amount of weight, lets be honest Vivian how many Big Mac and fries can you eat in one evening.

Every Championship fight in the UK carries a mandatory post fight drug test conducted by UKSPORT a government backed organisation which overseas all types of sporting events. http://www.uksport.gov.uk/.
Harris and Witter were both drug tested after the fight they do not have an option to decline overwise they will fail the test and be disqualified. The WBC also stipulate there must be a post fight drug test.
Junior Witter has been subject to doping control procedures since becoming British Champion 2002 and has been tested in every fight since then with the exception of Lucky Sambo.

Clips and the full fight can be found on You Tube.

As for Witters corner entering the ring, the referee had waved the fight of after 8-9 the timekeeper can be heard counting to 10 the referee is the one who determines when the contest is over not the time keeper.
Harris was never going to beat the count.

Vivian was shown every respect during his stay in the UK his team and family who I believe some live in London were invited to the After fight party. When Junior Witter arrived Harris's brother stood up,silenced the room and made a speech that although his brother was in his room recovering he wanted it to be known that.

1.He has been treated with the greatest respect
2.The better man won on the night
3.He was given a great reception when he entered and left the ring
    4.There was no complaints.

Harris can take satisfaction that this time he was beaten by the WBC and a great fighter and not another Maussa.

      Lucky Sambo? Wtf?

The idea that the referee waved it off at eight and then witter’s team entered the ring is wrong. A member of witter’s team was part way through the rope at 7. This is what caused the referee to wave off the contest, so he wouldn't be counting out a fighter with cornermen in the ring. There should be a fine applied to team witter.

I'm not saying it changed the outcome of the fight. I'm just saying it was a ****-up by witters corner.

A **** up that does nothing to change anything in the fight at all. I think the ref would have stopped it, regardless. Harris was noowhere to be found, only his body remained.... lol.

correct. and at this point, Harris' team is angling more for a rematch, so of course they're going to point every single instance they believe will secure as such.

Viv's my homeboy and I feel bad for him. But he has to know that taking this approach will leave him wide open to criticism.
