Junior Witter: "I Want Recognition in America"

Witter definitely deserves recognition in America. It's a bit short sighted of some fans to suggest he doesn't deserve it. I mean, he boxed Lovemore N'dou in America, and were it not for a broken hand he would have stopped N'dou.
His knockout over Harris was very impressive and he fully deserves recognition from the fans stateside.

Here are a few fighters and venues for you:
Ricardo Torres in Miami, Fl
Paulie Malignaggi in New York
Kendal Holt in Atlantic City or NY
Demetrius Hopkins in Las Vegas (great way to get under the GBP banner)
Juan Lazcano in Las Vegas or LA
Herman Ngoudjo in NY or even Canada on FNFs.
If you hurry, you might even be able to get on the Dec 8 card right under Mayweather-Hatton, especially if you pick D-Hop as your opponent as I'm sure B-Hop wouldn't mind giving his nephew a title shot on that card. It will also be a pretty easy win for you as I doubt D-Hop would go the distance.
witters always stayed home and fought second tiers.all the meaningfull fights are over her.
Originally posted by Hatton87 View PostYou dont need to fight in America to get recognition not many of your fighters fight outside America (Mayweather, Hopkins when they wud earn more money). Malignaggi is to scared he aint getting any recognition from me, Witter will beat Paulie easily I think. You got to get in Witters face to beat him. Ricky wud take him apart. I wud not fight Hopkins cos u can get ****** decisions like the Forbes fight which he clearly lost.

But at the same time, i feel Witter is suggesting that amoung fight fans and boxing writers, his win over Harris should be appreciated. His performance alone should gain him recognition in America.
If his win over Harris was in America, would it be any more respected?

If Witter had fought Harris on an American telecast, then yes, he'd get more recognition, even if the fight wasn't on American soil. You don't really have to fight on American soil, but you do need to be showcased on American television.
Take Joe Calzaghe, for instance. Before his brutal beating of Lacy (which was on American TV), nobody in the States really paid any attention to him. Now everyone talks him up; the Manfredo fight also helped.
The same for Kessler. His beat down of Andrade on American TV lifted his market value immensely. Nobody really knew who he was until that fight.
Yes, Witter's fight with N'Dou was on American soil, but it wasn't part of the telecast that night. I've seen the fight, tho, and I remember scoring it a draw at 113, so he wasn't even that impressive (even if he had a broken hand, he still didn't look that great).
Junior, if you read this forum, talk to your team and have them try to arrange a fight here in the states, preferably under the GBP banner.

He could try and get a fight with Gavin Rees for his WBA belt on the Calzaghe/Kessler under card. OK, it's not in the US, but it may get screened on HBO and a win (almost guaranteed) would leave him with two world titles, ready to set up a unification bout with Malignaggi in the spring. Go on Junior, throw caution to the wind and put yourself about a bit, people will then take notice.Last edited by Randall_Hopkirk; 09-10-2007, 01:31 PM.

Lets be honest here, Witter, at 33, is in the twilight of his career now so he hasn't really got any time to wait around.

Right now, nobody in the USA really knows Witter but the hard-core fans. Witter needs to get two or three fights in the USA to be able to command the kind of money that Ricky could command right now to headline a PPV show (even if it weren't against PBF or DLH). Ricky could probably fight Collazo again on PPV and get 200K buys whereas when he fought him the first time, a PPV event might've received 30K buys.
If Witter wants to make the big money, he needs to come to America and win over American fans. PBF was smart and he took down Gatti in Atlantic City and basically won all of Gatti's fans to his side. If Witter can do the same against other fighters here in the US, he'd be set for a big payday.
Same goes for PBF, he needs to get his skinny arse over to the uk, cos only hardcore boxing fans have heard of him, if he consideres himself p4p best fighter in the world, then he would travel the world, but he's probably afraid he wouldn't get a decision in u.k or germany or anywhere else. Why should everyone have to go over to your country, most of you sherman's (SHERMAN TANKS - YANKS for the uneducated) seem to think the world revolves around your country. Well guess what it doesn't, the world started off revolving around us, that's why you don't see the word GREAT in front of U.S.A but it's infront of BRITAIN.

As for Witter, bah. He should fight Malignaggi.......I don't see why that wouldn't be the next obvious match at 140.
