  • Hatton is going to prove how truly great Mayweather is...

Floyd imo is more of what i call todays fighters...Made fighters. Meaning, many of them were brought up very young, looking at what guys like Leonard did. They learned the technique, and the style to use speed, balance timing to help them pretty much be unbeateable to most fighters at a large part of their career.

The question we are waiting on for Mayweather, that Roy rarely allowed us a glimpse at this issue, what will he do versus a great fighter at his peak with a style that will force him to use more than speed, or boxing. Where is will test his ability to simply Fight!! That is what i see is missing from the Taylors, Jones, Mosley's etc....Fight that is the name of the game...boxing is great but in the end where is your heart, courage at.

Look at Mayweather, Taylor, Sweat Pea, Jones....These fighters use speed timing, reflexes to their advantage just as Leonard did and they simply look amazing. In fact, in Jones and Mayweathers case you can make a case that pound per pound their speed and timing is just as good if not better than Ray Leonard's. I think Roy was faster and Mayweather is just as fast pound per pound.

I think Mayweather is more technical than even Ray Leonard. He has certain parts of his fight game that are better than Ray's or at least equal too. That is his counters, his right hand is sharper. Ray's sometimes is looping in nature, somewhat sloppy sometimes. Mayweather, at the lower weight was simply dominating, look at how he did Corrales. Mayweather's defense is better than Ray's. Sometimes Ray caught right hands that would make make you and I cringe.

However, some of Leonard's shortcomings is what made him great. His getting hit with right hands, if you notice always, I mean ALWAYS resulted in Ray immediately responding with crisp hurtful counters. Even when Duran hit him, hurt him, Leonard in the 2nd round, came on in the end with his own counters. Even when he was old and out of retirement, when Hearns had him down, he came back later in the round. So Leonard's heart, courage, and that "thing" inside of him is something that Mayweather has not shown us "yet".

What Taylor are you talking about? Meldrick Taylor?

I wouldn't put Jermain Taylor on Roy or Floyd's level yet maybe not ever.

I pretty much agree with what you said. If Floyd had good hands at 147 I think he could take some rounds from Leonard. Leonard has much more power though and might just walk through Floyd's punches.

One thing if i may add Leonard could be technical like floyd ....but Leonard could also trade and knock u out.... i think he has this over Mayweather....leonard did both in excellent fasion...and although i am a big fan of floyd i think ray would have beaten him if they could fight now... when we compare fighters of the past to the present ....since they cant actually step in the ring we go by comparison of resume...and leonard fought much stiffer competition... his only loss in those great wars was to duran... u have duran ..hall of famer.... hagler...hall of famer....hearns ...hall of famer...and highly touted boxers... and leonard went to war with all of them..... he could box or brawl.... without hesitation..and again if they could fight today i think leonard wins...........

Yeah Leonard would win but at 147 Floyd with good hands being active could take a few rounds from Sugar Ray IMO.

At 147 I also think Sugar Ray would win, I don't know what to exploit of Floyd's game because he hasn't lost, it would be one hell of a boxing match though.

One advantage Hatton does have is his cross training...he actually played other sports and at a decent level aswel as boxing. Its similar to Wayne Rooney who plays football but has a background in boxing and has helped him greatly in becoming one of the best football players in the world. It helps,it means Hatton has certain physical reflexs and muscle groups that Mayweather has never been able to create or train if he only boxed his whole life.

that last post is spot on!

i've never thought about that but how accurate it is!

but i have to say one thing, these extra physical attributes he may have, he still will be made to work very hard to get past mayweathers masterful pure boxing ability!

Nah, sorry. He stopped playing when he was 16 I believe. Big freakin' deal. It doesn't matter what muscle groups he has been able to train by cross training. Boxing isn't about that. It's about who can effectively use his style against you. It's about who can adapt. Not that crap you spewed.
