When did ESPN's _______ Night Fights lose its quality?

I just watched Winky Wright thoroughly dominate Robert Frazier for a vacant IBF Light Middleweight title belt. When I was watching, a thought occurred to me, "When is the last time an ESPN broadcast had one of the four major sanctioning bodies' title belts at stake?"

Seriously, all ESPN is now is usually some dude around 15-0 taking on some pretty decent, slightly diminished fighter (28-5). Example: Leon Bobo vs. Antonio Diaz.

Another one that I have seen are eliminator fights for some sanctioning body between two guys who are pretty good, but probably are not going to be able to defeat the elite in the division. Example: Rob Calloway vs. Terry Smith.

Finally, if we are lucky, we get to watch an elite fighter disgrace a fighter's entire life with the thorough destruction he brings on him. Example: Zab Judah vs. Ruben Galvan.

Is there anyone besides me who would like to see the vacant (IBF, WBA, WBC or WBO) title up for grabs in a fight on ESPN?

we all want to see that, but I wouldnt expect it to happen. It would be nice if they at least showed NABF bull**** title fights.

I think its great espn is involved in bringing free (well its still on a dish or cable so its not really free but its not hbo or showtime) fights to those who are die hard fans; casual sports fans; those not able to afford the better fights BUT as far as the casual sports fan (and general public goes) thats what is ruining boxing in my opinion.

you have your casual sports fan (or general tv watching population) flipping through the channels and seeing these fights when most of them arent very good and even for the die hard fans of the sport some fights are downright hard to watch due to the fact its so uneven (in terms of talent) or just a pure yawner because there is no will being shown in the fight...looks like two guys just trying to get paid and go home and its no good for the public.

the only time i ever see a more widely known (elite if you will) fighter on their cards with when they are coming off of a loss (ie. zab judah; jason litzau, allan green, etc.) and most of the time they dismantle their opponents within 2 rounds and its terrible.

i think it would be better (and i'd enjoy it as well) if espn had better fights...not what appears to be two bums slugging it out for some $$$.

What i've come to learn is you cant go by the matchups on ESPN...you have to tune into the first few rounds of each fight and decide of you believe its going to be a good fight...

i will say this, espn has had some good fights this year but nothing notworthy compared to the amazing fights shown on HBO, showtime, and PPV. its not even in the same ballpark but in all fairness espn does OKAY...but they need to show better fights...bigger names...titles being decided in the 4 commissions and so on.

Friday night fights is a great as it is, they have pretty big fights every once in a while. Plus its not really about championship fights, It more about news about upcomming fights and fighters. Plus who can complain when we have Wensday night fights and friday night fight, I love summertime.

I would like to see a fight like that, maybe even a defense of a sanctioned title, It pretty much has to do with money though. Those big ppv's usually get those types of fights...and people wonder why boxing is not as popular as it used to be.

When they got rid of the green ring and the ESPN letters in cursive writing.

Just a FYI .. I know this doesn't relate to title fights on ESPN

but MSG network, if you've heard of it .. does show current title fights.

2 examples ... when Valuev lost the WBA title .. the fight was on TV.

hell MSG is even supposed to show the crusierweight title fight November 10 with Mormeck vs Haye.
